With all due respect to Shabzy35, and based on a lot of input here, I offer the following options (if you want to call them that) relating to possible methods for addressing a fubar 200 engine:
1 Source an engine from ebay? - VIN?
2 Source an Engine from a salvage yard – VIN seems to be a problem
3 Source an engine from a salvaged 200-Probably has a known VIN
4 Jarco????
4a Source an engine from dealer (Jarco = re-mfg) - No VIN but with 12 month warranty
5 Trade in the fubar vehicle to a dealer for a low-ball number
6 Sell the fubar “shell” with the bad engine
7 Sell on BAT?
8 Sell on ebay?
9 Sell to copart??
10 Part Out?
11 Take a chance on a Tundra engine?
B12 Buy a beater & store the fubar vehicle in a garage until a reliable engine is found
13 Buy a newer LC & store the fubar engine vehicle in a garage for parts?
14 Buy a used engine and do a complete tear-down/re-build prior to installing in the fubar vehicle
15 Complete tear-down and rebuild of the engine in the fubar vehicle
16 Sell the fubar vehicle to a mechanic or restorer or a competent Mud guy as a project

I think you have stated that you have a great mechanic. What are his thoughts?

I do not do my own work so for me the warranty would be an important factor.

I chose Scenario 2 when my engine grenaded. Depends on how much the truck means to you man. Ours was / is special to our family. It was worth it. I know my 200. Inside and out. I looked at all the options as you are. It’s part of the process. For me it was. Natural selection led me to be patient and find the right donor. And it took the better part of a year. Be patient. If you can write the check and the truck means a lot to you then find a donor. I would not go re-man. I did my research and so did the mechanics I consulted. Most don’t use Toyota parts. At the end of the day it has to make financial sense. It was a painful check to write but that was the decision we made. Good luck man. Don’t rush this process. Take your time.

There’s a guy out in UT who’s got a YT channel “Dave’s auto…..something” he does a lot of engine rebuilds. I don’t know if it’d be worth an email to him or not, but his videos seem like he knows what he’s doing with engine testing, etc.

EDIT: here's the guy's YT channel link. Mods, if the link needs to be "broken," etc please do so - I'm not tech savvy.

My mechanic favors choice #3 but, there again and as @liv2bik says they are so scarce that it will probably be a long search and wait. I'm leaning toward finding a newer 200 and either stashing this one in the garage and waiting for the replacement engine to show up or fire selling this damaged one.

Careful! There's a beverage involved here....!!!!

HALLELULAH!!!!!
Looking at a 2016 with 162,000 miles. Seems like too many miles. I think I will continue the thrill of the hunt.....

But isn’t that just 0.02 million miles more than the crippled one?

Damn your eyes....;)

The beauty is in the planning, not the plan...
