Just out of curiosity, how about installing the 1uz out of fist gen lexus. Can be purchased for real cheap, usually for under $1000 for a long bock. It is a MUCH more reliable engine than a "chevy", plus it keeps up to Toyota loyalty!! Plus it helps keep weight down (aluminum).

Anyways the 1uz could operate off a piggy pack type controler, that way you could keep the 3fe's tranny. Just need to figure out motor mounts and tranny adapter. And I believe A/C and cruise control can still be used. Not sure of that

Any takers?:flipoff2:

Will you be doing all of the swap work yourself?

I would recommend talking with people who have swapped other engines into an early 80 series--Gary Waggoner comes to mind.

Kirk is doing a swap right now, and I can see first hand the significant amount of time, effort and money he has put into it to do it right.

Good luck.

The 1UZ is aluminum. It provides about the same power as a 1FZ. But they can be hopped up. I've seen them really cheap. $800 including harness and ECM. I think the reason being is they aren't a hot swapping motor for conversions and they last so long so the boneyards aren't getting calls on them. There are a couple of sites dedicated to these swaps. Look under Lexus Extreme. I think that is where I found info on it. I've always thought it would be a cool powerplant for a streetrod.

The UZ would be more bang for his buck. He's starting with the 3FE. It is a 92. So to do a turbo on a 1FZ he'd have to swap in a 1FZ first. And really the 1UZ power is quite similar to a 1FZ in stock form.
