Mark Miller Toyota (WCC member Will Carrol) in SLC put a Toy V8 in a FJ80... The 3FE now resides in Puggs rig.

Kurt,

Do you have any pics / info?

I actually worked with Will many summers ago. Very cool dude.

Tundra V8

Skim, how ya been man!

Yeah, I put a 2002 tundra V8 into a 92 FJ80. I have pictures so I will post some up when I get home. A few details, tundra V8, tundra auto trans, marlin crawler, late model split case. I used the existing crossmember, and fabbed motor mounts, actually bought tundra frame mounts, and then fabbed the mount on the engine to space it correctly. Everything fit great, the 2UZ-FE is a tall engine and at least 2 1/2 inches of lift is needed to clear the oil pan unless you fab a custom pan. Electronics were fairly easy the truck is fully OBD 2 compliant including functional evaporative emissions, and has been check engine light free since it was done. Factory guages with operational tach, trans temp, coolant temp, etc. I believe it has about 8000 miles on it now and the thing is a very nice ride. Lots of little stuff to mess with, had to lower the panhard rod support bar, lower the bump stops, etc, etc, etc. Anymore questions feel free and I will try to get some pics.

Body lift or suspension lift?

suspension lift. The problem is the front axle coming in contact with the oil pan on full compression. So you either have to make a custom oil pan or get the front axle farther away from the oil pan.

I would guess suspension lift for the oil pan to clear the axle since the engine mounts to the frame and not the body. I think that's why the 105 series still come with the 1FZE engines; the 2UZ-Fe won't clear the axle without an aftermarket lift.

So lowering the front axle bump stops will ensure the axle doesn't hit the oil pan even if the suspension lift sags with additional weight.

I wonder if the 2UZ from a 100 series would have more clearance in the oil pan area?... it does have a larger 8" front diff on the proper side. Another thing to look at would be the Lexus 1UZ oil pan, they have front and rear sumps that would have a better chance of clearing the panhard support.

I'd go for the complete 100 series engine/trans/transfer to make things easier.

I'd simply get a 100 series all together

Sure do you can simply get a 100 series all together but then again you don't have a solid front axle with locker eh. I will still get the 80 with V8 conversion with powah. :D

So? I don't get it? I have F&R lockers in the 100 just like my 80. So? The 100's twice the vehicle the 80 is and almost as good a wheeler.

The defense rests, your honor.

This news just in.........the Jury is hung. They couldn't aggree about which vehicle trait is the most important. They decided to simply invest in one of every vehicle type. There first recommendation was a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with 4-inch Trailmaster Lift, because it outwheels everything including 80's.
