new to site; lots of great info.
Recently acquired '71 FJ55, 1st ever restoration. 73K original miles, have made some progress with my limited knowledge.
Have had some problems starting with the weather cold here. Starts fine when its warm after a priming and a few cranks, takes forever when its cold, almost killed the battery the other day. Any troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated!!

Adjust the valves, time it to spec, learn how to adjust your carb and make sure the choke works...pics would help.

Welcome to the world of Pigs and MUD!

Also, might want to post something similar, but with more details, to the 40/55 TECH section...more smarter people go there.

spent a couple hours going thru the carb section of 40/55 tech, am in way over my head. . . . BUT, that's why I love this truck. I'll be the student for awhile, it'll teach me. That, and a poorly written manual from Japan regarding carb timing. Swappin it out.

followup . . .

. . . AND have learned that carburetion is an important quality in this car; put in a 32/36 Weber, ran like a new car last week in 10-20F weather and a little snow to boot. Thanks to RustyGold for the F motor manual link; found that my stock carb was missing part of the throttle/choke assembly. Will try and rebuild it anyway, just for fun.
thanks
