...hope a better one is replacing it .

MAN oh man you should see what's replacing it! It's not even CLOSE to anything a Cruiser could use but It's VERY nice.

I took the shot of the demolition. Next time I'm over there, if Scott'll let me, I'll shoot that. Then invite myself and everyone who has posted on VV's thread to come over when it's done for a keg party... Or something.

I'm keeping record of my build too but that's because it's not mine.

Long story, but the barn was built on a dirt floor and on a slope. Tried several years ago to improve it by putting in a better floor. Concrete and leveling work was going to be $15-20k (not me doing it), so I went with gravel, and had to do two floor different levels in the barn to handle all the slope. The gravel was constantly wet and musty, so I did not end up using the space other than for storage.

Then my :princess: decided to build this next to it, which is almost finished. And we all know you can't have an ugly barn next to a cosmopolitan pool and pool house!

So, I lost my storage. But, I gain a workshop if this pool doesn't break me. Going to build it on the other side of the house. I had hoped to be working on that already, but we are only 3 mos behind schedule, which I consider good for a 12 month project.

Sounds like a plan!

Anxious to see it work. I'll be over soon.

That picture isn't nearly as cool as one of the unit itself. Just a suggestion...

Leave it to V V to install the worlds largest inground electrolysis tank. Must be the new advertising.

You could put the whole truck in there!! want to rent it out ?

Well since Rainman is busting my chops, here is the Eastwood "Bucket Blaster" (bucket not included).

Not much to it, no instructions either.

I gave it a quick 30 second trial tonight. Had ear pro, glasses, face shield, long sleeves, and respirator on, but had no full head cover, and had on shorts. Figured out real quick that was not going to work.

After 30 seconds of crushed glass particles going down my collar, on my head, in my gloves and in my socks, I quit.

Not before I did this though. Tested on the wheel hub.

Before and after.

Clearly glass works and is aggressive. The after photo was about 15 seconds

I bought some Staurolite media and the glass.

Those siphon type blasters are a waste of money , of course by now you've already figured that out . That media just flies everywhere you don't want it and is wasted quickly . If you do like some and use the super cheap Harbor Flake cabinet and a shop vac you'll spend just as much in vac filters and frustration as buying a decent cabinet . Look into either Scat or ALC for best value for money . Pay close attention to the angle of the cabinet base - if it's not extremely steep the material won't cycle back to the pickup and it's a real pain to constantly have to push it back to the bottom . This one from ALC is a pretty good unit and price is about as good as it gets -

80 grit glass beads works in the middle of the range , ground glass is more aggressive and should be avoided for aluminum parts . I used to use 180/400 for carburetor rebuilds and had great results . A unit with a bottom dump valve to swap out media is a big help . The Scat cabinet/vac combo is a great choice and doesn't use the dumb blower motor/bag system like my old Snap-On .

Well, I agree & disagree. For my situation currently, I need something small, dirty and quick to finish detailed cleaning of certain parts.

I don't have room for a cabinet, and don't have a large compressor in my garage at the moment. When I build, I plan to have a good blast cabinet if I'm still needing a lot of blasting.

Right now, I need something that can run for a short period of time and get a lot done in a small area. This seems to fit the bill. Especially with my small 6 gallon compressor!

I'm in the for that A A Ron. Do it!

One thing that will help a lot is to get a blasting hood , big difference . If I have to go that route it's just done outside away from anything of value , works good enough .

Yes, good call. Picked up a cheap one at TS yesterday along with some Black Beauty (coal slag) for $6/bag. Now I have some crushed glass, BB, and some Starblast.

It's been a while since I've talked to you, Rainman or vtgbeemer. We need to get another meetup in order!
Aaron, I'm heading out of town Tuesday for 2 weeks. Maybe after that we can all get together. Go up toward Craig (VtgBeemer) and see his running truck, see your truck too.

Spent the afternoon media blasting. The little Eastwood Bucket Blaster did pretty well.

The main slowdown was, of course, the compressor. It tried but just couldn't keep up.

Still - I was really happy with the results. Just stick the metal intake hose into the bucket, and begin.

Brake baking plate up close. Darker area is wire wheeled. Lighter is blasted (crushed glass).

Corners are blasted clean!

Hmm, knuckle still needs a little more cleanup.
