Hi all,

I am looking to do a manual transmission swap to my currently auto 1kz 94 Surf. Has anyone else done this using donor parts from an NA 4runner? I have a parts 3.0 2nd gen 4runner with a R150F. My main concern is that the Bellhousing currently attaching my 1KZ to it's auto trans wont bolt onto the R150F. Next I'm worried that the clutch fork currently on the r150f wont be compatible with the 1kz clutch hardware I put in, or if I source a 1kz clutch fork I'm not sure if it will be compatible with the r150F. I've scoured the internet for hours and can't find anything, any insight would be appreciated. If I go through with it I will be sure to document the process.

Cheers

You will need the 1KZ/R150 bellhousing and the associated clutch parts, including clutch fork and slave cylinder. The rest of the transmission should be compatible, including the input shaft as long as you stay with a 3.0 variant and not 3.4.

The clutch fork is 31204-60090, throwout bearing 31230-60170, slave cylinder 31470-60201, and bellhousing 31111-60270. The stiffener plates that bolt between the engine and transmission would be good to have as well: 33118-60050 and 33119-60050.

Are you sure about the bellhousing? Did the Manual transmission 1kzs have different bellhousings to the autos? I haven't really found anything online about whether it would work or not, but would really muck up my plans if I need to track down a bellhousing.

Quite sure. Bellhousings are both engine and transmission specific, at least in the Toyota world. The 1KZ/A343f bellhousing is 35111-60080.

For reference, here is a 1KZ/A343f bellhousing:

This is a 3VZ/R150f bellhousing:

As you can see, the bellhousing to transmission bolt pattern is quite different between the two. Also, on the R150 the hole for the clutch arm and it’s pivot are both in the bellhousing.
