Hi

Im puting a 1KZ-TE and Dyna Gearbox into a Toyota Coaster Campervan. Anyone done this before or any advice?

Thanks

Simon:)

Oh great! I just discovered the KD-FTV engines! Now I want one of those!!!!

I'm tellin' you man a 1KD-FTV and an AY6 6-speed transmission, dual cases and an MC70 mating an R1AF onto there instead of the newer chain-drive unit...

I need to go punish myself for daydreaming over money I'll never own.:crybaby:

Ok I just Googled it, its a deisel. ya thats ok I dont want a deisel. thanks anyway. I'll take the 1UZ or 3UZ mated to my R151 instead.

You have clearly never wheeled a diesel. More importantly, you have obviously never wheeled a diesel, then went into the gas station to use the potty because all your friends are buying gasoline, and you've only used a quarter tank after two days of wheeling.:flipoff2:

Also, they sound WAY cooler if they have a turbo than any gas engine will. Plus, the clatter is theraputic.

You're right, I've never wheeled a deisel, in fact the only deisel I've ever wheeled next to was loud, smokey and smelled like crap. I dont want anything to do with deisels. yes I know their power and they are great for towing. But for my wheeler no thanks. To heavy, to loud and they smell like crap. I'll take my nice quit V8 or my current 3RZ any day.

To load what? They sure can carry a lot.

Clearly you've only dealt with American diesels. Our diesels are designed to be as bulky, inefficient, and fugly as our gasser motors. Shoot, I still can't believe that the Duramax crackpots think 21MPG is a respectable mileage!
Toyota (and Hino, by nature) diesels are smooth, they barely tick, burn clean, and just have all manner of zip, I got to try out an extracab with a 2LII-T in it, and that little motor could bury you in your seat! On inspection, I listened to the motor, it was quieter than any Chevy motor I grew up with (way less valve noise, diesel clatter was barely audible) I even had to get on my knees and sniff the tailpipe to make sure it was a diesel, it burned that clean.

Bear in mind that every diesel is nothing like the gravel trucks that we hear ten miles off pulling a grade; and they've come a long way since they really entered the commonplace. (Shoot, my neighbor's NPR van's so quiet, all I hear is the box shaking as it pulls the hill.) The newest diesels Toyota's been selling, such as the 1KD-FTV, the coveted 1VD-FTV and others of their D-4D line are some of the cleanest diesels ever made.
Besides, as Dan says, the clatter's theraputic, and the efficiency can't be beat.

Like Chuck said, Toyota diesels are nothing like American efforts. Unfortunately for us, they gave up after the L series in the US- a pretty marginal effort at best. The KZ and up -era motors are great. When I pull up to a fuel pump in the 62 with the 1HZ+turbo, the gas jockeys can't believe it is diesel.

Will this reply ruin the thread?

4WheelUnderground, chillax, there's so much tongue-in-cheek from the members you're missing the inside joke.

Dan is one of the proponents of them..lets see some work done, the engine's are great for wheeling, I can't see why anyone would think differently.

Its just the "Clearly" comments are kinda funny. Reminds me of the comic book salesmen from the Simpsons.

I am SO changing my profile pic to that guy!:D:D

Honestly, though, 4Wheel, I meant no slight in my comments, and true I do come off as a know-it-all, it's just my writing style.
Nice rig, too, the inset fender jack mounts are pretty rad!
