Just a bit of diesel trivia. I've noticed early Toyota diesel valves will say 'HZ', 'KZ' or 'L' on them which usually indicates engine family. But then I've seen pictures where they're mixed in a given engine.

For heck of it, I looked up these part numbers. 2LTE exhaust valve 13715-54040 is also used in the 1HZ. 2LTE intake valve 13711-54020 is also used in the 1KZ. Valve springs, seats, seals, keepers, buckets, shims all seem to be shared also.

I love how Toyota does that!

Here's a picture of a 1KZTE head that shows an 'L' intake valve:

Here's a 1HZ engine with an 'L' exhaust valve:

Here's a regular 2LTE (mine):

1HZ/1PZ intake valve version 13711-17010 and exhaust valve version 13715-17010 are both shared with versions of the 2L/3L in the mid 90s. Those 2L/3L heads are compatible back to the 2LTE.

I'm beginning to think all these valves are interchangeable.... Certainly between 1HZ/1PZ and 2L/3L. Usually 1HDT valves say 1HZ on them too. Which leaves me wondering if that motor can accept these too.

1KZ exhaust valve seems to be the only unique one.

How are you cross referencing part numbers?

Toyodiy let's you cross reference part numbers pretty well

13711-17010 is currently used in 1VD-FTV in 79 series

I was just using Megazip, but ToyoDIY is better I think (I forgot about it). That's bloody unbelievable if that valve is used to the 1VD-FTV even.

I've found this with other parts too, like my 1990 LJ78 rear brake rotors (and associated parts) which were used in the Sequoia/4Runner/GX470 here in mid 2000s. I really like this about Toyota.

Yeah, I think Beno is right. You have to expand each vehicle series to see which engine the part is from. Like this. HZJ not VDJ.

I had 79series page open when I plugged in that part number. It showed a hit
It showed the part diagram too, but it looks like the first five digits are the same, but the last five are not

That valve is shared with lots of diesels of that vintage though. So case in point I guess. 2.0 Corolla diesel 1AD-FTV for example, haha.

Reason it shares the valves is that the 1VD-FTV is basically 2 1AD-FTV's mated at the blocks. Ergo, they will share tons of components across the engine families.
