Removed the ACSD a couple years ago. But it's possible it has had this issue starting in the cold since then as I was living on Vancouver Island and it rarely gets below 0 there.

Where can I find clear fuel line?

Any hardware store or Crappy Tire.

You can go to 2 micron, I did and noticed no difference in power. Even put a vacuum gauge on to be sure it was not to restrictive. Works beautifully.

I think it even strips most of that pesky red dye out of the fuel too ;)

What is all this nonsense about Victoria!

I want to park my truck every winter here.

It was -2 all last night and I followed a salt truck, in to, AND from work. Ready to climb a bell tower...

Spending a small fortune on the spray n wash too LOL.

Sorry so off topic.

Just kidding. Thanks for that petro thread I have noticed less smoke on it. Clear line does work. When you primed it ran smooth, did you prime when it was stumbling to see if it smoothed out and was firm . 2 microns is no issue even with more fuel.

Yes lol I am using Petro can diesel. They would have switched to a winter blend some time ago since this is the Interior :)

I haven't had a chance to try the clear hose yet but hope to this weekend. To answer your question about priming... I primed it when it was dead cold, it started and ran fine. For about 5 minutes (just sitting there idling in the driveway) and then the rpms started to drop until it stalled (still while in Park)

When I tried to start it up again, I didn't prime it, and it didn't want to start. When it did it ran like it was missing a cylinder and I had to help it with the hand throttle otherwise it would still again. Until it had substantially warmed up and then it was fine.

Perfect:)
Thanks for the info.

Any idea on the flow rate you used?
45gph or 60gph?

This is definitely something I am planning for down the road.

The racor 45s filter is good for 45 gallons per hour, used with there 400 series filter housings.... Waaaaaay more than sufficient for the 1hd-t

A year later and we're back to sub -10C temps. And the truck is still having this issue. I thought that replacing the leaks in the IP seals and fuel heater (filter) assembly had fixed the problem, but had no way of actually testing that because the temps raised significantly right after I repaired it.

-12 here this morn... glow plug lit for about 3 seconds. then I started it, it idled low and rough for about 8 mins in the driveway with my hand throttle keeping it about 1,000 rpm... then I tried to drive it... backed out of driveway and it stalled right in the middle of my street and refused to start until I held the throttle down and cranked the starter for about 8 seconds. Tons of white and black smoke and shaking. Brought idle and kept trying to stall until I made it to the end of the block... then *poof* all was fine for the rest of the day.

To note, I also leave my truck at work (not plugged in) for about 7 hours during the day (still less than -10C). NO issues starting. It seems to be a time + temp induced problem.

Argh!
