Hmmm... what did it look like? I don't think I have any sort of external tach converter. I did unwrap and reorganize the harness quite a bit and re-wrapped it in harness tape as I was a little underwhelmed by some of the finishing touches.

And yes, I do have cruise working with the factory stalk... but getting the light on the dash to work will require a little more fiddling. Bryan makes a nice multiplex to analog converter for the Cruise, PWR, and 2nd Start light, but I was unable to get it to work. We are theorizing that my ECU may be sending a slightly different string of code and he will have to play with it in person to get it working. So, right now my cruise works, PWR, and 2nd Start all work, but I have no indicator lights.
Very nice description and good approach on the projct. I am facing the same with more or less 340t mls on the clock of my US LX I intent to swap for the 1HD-FTE/A750F power-pack. We have a lot of choice of on HDJ100 from northern europe with low milage but rusted body. Thanks for that brillant manual.

Nice write up, obviously you don't have to answer if it's a grey area, but what are the legalities of importing rolling frames that are newer than 25 years old? Thanks.

Thanks. As to the importation of rolling frames, I'm pretty sure you are right... it's a grey area. Generally speaking, I believe it's a no-go but there are people who occasionally find a way to get something in the US. In my case, I didn't import the frame - I was told they were armored DoD trucks which were de-mil'ed.

You let me know if you happen to run across a late production Euro FTE truck with a 5 speed manual transmission being dismantled!

Man, what a lucky find! I'm looking at importing an HDJ100, the 5 speed transmission I'm sure is a nice upgrade!!
 
I sincerely think someone could make a good side business, importing packages of "Swap ready 1HD-FTE with harness, ecu, etc."... since they're just rusting to pieces over there in Europe. Instead of half cuts, dismantle it down to the essentials to save on shipping. Maybe have certain optional components (trans, transfer case, airbox... so on). I can't be the only one better equipped to handle a crated engine than half a vehicle.

If I were more ambitious I'd tackle it myself, but I already have one job I'm too lazy to do. 😆
