1FZ in a FJ40? Yes Sir!

The biggest downside of putting a 1fz in a 40 is that your probability of ending in a tree on the side of the road gets much higher x)
Well, yes, but no higher than installing a v8.

The other path is “keep it Toyota”. Yes you can make power for less with an LS, but there is a certain “art” to having a toyota drivetrain in a LandCruiser.

This is my 72. The motor is just for placement. It gets a coilpack 1fz-fe from a 100 series and a TRD supercharger.

This is my stretched 1963 FJ40 (bottom pic) It’s getting a stroker (5.2L) 1fz-f with the carb intake and a Sniper EFI for that “old skool” look under the hood, like this one @FJ60Cam is building. (And in-fact the stroker is being built by Cam.)

This is my 88 fj62 on a locked 80 frame, turbo 1fz-fe, built a340f.

OK, that’s not a 40, but this is. 😀

This is my 1967 FJ45LV. Haven’t decided yet, but leaning toward a full vdj76 frame with the 1vd-ftv diesel

That blue stretched 40 that was build by various shops up in Boise (McIver Fabrication had a pig part) is yours? If so, Bravo. That is my favorite 40 of all time, and I hope to replicate it's look and stance one day.

No, the stretched 63 40 that McIver was building for himself is mine.

I’m told the blue one is (was?) for sale.

Bellhousing is likely just fj.co

Seen FJ Company making these, he told me they cast there own in Bangladesh.
Looking to see if he can do me one or l'll consider getting one made from two bellhousings as the FJ.co one is pricy.
My H55 box is quite tight against the tube crossmember in my 71 SWB so l assume you have to move it to clear the bigger h15# box, unless the earlier models are different.
Love the look of the blue stretched 40, have a link to its build?

Because I like the “keep it Toyota” esthetic…

70-series locked axles and h55f going into my 1972 (stock length) fj40.

Truck also gets a coilpack 1fz-fe and more. Using an 80-series steering box. The axles under it in the photo here are from a fj55. They’re just placeholders, like the engine. 😝

Yes, I could do a GM PS box, SBC, h55f, ARB-locked axles and rear disc conversion for less.

But I already had that truck. Twice.

I am curious about how your planning to operate the cable lockers in a 40 series? Haven't had any luck finding the 60 series or 70 series cables and handles. Have what I need to install cable lockers in my FJ62 or FJ40. Controls are the hold up.

Parking break handle ?

Is this your plan? Mine will be going in a LHD 79+ FJ40 or my FJ62. Might be room on the right side of the 40 series transmission hump with one going each direction. The front one might be awkward to pull. On the 60 series the handles pulled straight up. Believe 70 series are mounted to the bottom of the dash. Cable lockers were never imported to the US so everything is hard to locate. Even the full floating rear axles were never imported.

I’m working through the same conundrum. I’ve only seen one solution on Mud where the actuators are under the driver’s seat. I’ve got hj61 cable lockers on my fj62 now that I’m planning to migrate to my 40 build.

They’re e-lockers, so a Toyota switch. I’m hoping to locate it in a center console with a double-din wireless AirPlay head unit and the seat heater switches.

Like this, but stock seats from a 74, in leather.

You know: a “luxury” build.

Planning mine in a 79 FJ40. Have the 8/80+ center console with a heater under it. I do have one E-locker diff. I also have the long spline inner axles for front and rear. I understand the front E-locker actuator has clearance issues with the right front spring fully compressed. The cable locker doesn't have that problem which is why thinking cable lockers. Plan on adding factory air and power steering. Air mainly for dusty trails when traveling in a group. Most of Arizona the factory air is not really going to cool like modern SUV in the summer. Not going giant tires so factory steering should be fine.
