The issue with warranty on these reman engines sent me to the parts Dept at my local dealer. There is a part number for a long block but essentially is not available here in the states. The short block is available as well as new head with guides and seals. You will have to roll your own to complete the head with necessary parts

I ordered a reman through cruiserparts.net. Supposedly use Genuine Toyota parts. Hopefully it shows up in the next couple of weeks. I will post some pics once recieved and try to put up a review about everything.

I have read of people here complaining about cruiserparts in the past, but I have to tell you, I have been pretty happy with their inventory and shipping times recently. Please start a new thread when your engine arrives. I would really like to see pics and hear of your opinions on the engine they sent you.

Will do, I searched a lot places and nobody is really selling these engine anymore. I tried all major places like autozone, advanced, summit Jeggs, fraiser and that place on eBay. Almost did the one ebay and then I saw cruiserparts had them. Figured this would be a lot better option since at least know somthing about cruisers.
As for buying a short block through Toyota and getting the head, this would be an extremely expensive endover. You starting to get into v8 swap money at that point. Plus you probably have to have really good mechanical experience. Shipping would prolly be crazy expensive unless you were lucky and lived by a dealer that gave the cheaper parts price. Overland did it right by getting the short block and resurfacing the head, but a master mechanic did his rebuild. You can see on YouTube. Just blows my mind when people suggest this A good option.

MickeyB, did you ever get your reman engine in from cruiserparts? Any feedback on the build, experience or performance to date?

Never did, I ended up canceling the order and had to file a PayPal dispute to get my money back. After 6 weeks of waiting and not getting any answers on the actual status I gave up.

Well that isn't encouraging. Appreciate the feedback though. Was seriously eyeing that option.

A new OEM long block is gonna cost at least $11K in parts plus $2500-$3000 to get someone skilled putting it all together current state. Add another $3K for getting it back into truck.

If I was an LC specialist in LA, I’d charge at least $30K for a brand new 1FZ with a one year warranty present day. It won’t get cheaper as time passes and there will be plenty of buyers for this parts scarce and labor intensive product. Like yours truly. Because I just went through building a new oem long block piece by piece. I never want to go through it again, a labor of ❤️. Huge time suck for the impatient.

Ymmv ✌🏼

Your post makes me feel better about my recent rebuild. A little.

I'm considering this route as well.
Thanks for your epic parts list 🍻

I’ve got a couple more left and I’m tapped out my friend! Pleased to have some of my 80s kinfolk make use of it.
Pretty sure I found a failed head gasket today., Long story. Anyway, I have a hairline crack below the freeze plug that's above my block drain. I just do the head gasket and get a valve job done and spend the next year so building a motor but I kind of don't want to get the head redone with that crack knowing that I want to go to new motor anyway.

I also don't want to have downtime. I had a bunch of trips planned this spring and summer.....

I'm going to call around Monday. Maybe I'll get lucky and somebody has a short block in stock and a head. Or maybe even a complete 1 FZ long block.

I don't want reman. I want new. Reliability

I parked mine the moment I noticed excessive coolant loss.

My 80 was down from Oct ‘21 through March ‘22. A lot of the wait was organizing that parts list on Google Sheets, procuring parts (waiting on shims from Toyota Japan) and nabbing my turn at the machine shop and with my 4x4 specialist friend.

It was a grind, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. No one I trust builds new OEM blocks in a reasonable amount of time. If they do they’ll charge you $30K plus a one to two year wait for shop time because they can.

I never want to go through it again. Labor of ❤️.

Sounds like you are good to go.
I did a complete rebuild (and more) last July - October. Loved it so much I want to do another; 'afraid my wife would put me in the doghouse, forever.

Did all that stuff a couple of years ago…but the satisfaction of knowing it’s good for 300000 plus is oh so worth it…plus I now know everything about this motor and should be able to diagnose any issue…I was lucky enough to snag a new harness when doing the install made a big difference

I don’t know who the dude is on ih8, but a wonderful example of a true OEM loving 80 steward.

Note the Banker's Boxes. No doubt full of cash for the next stage of the project...
