1FZ-FE drivetrain in a 66FJ45LV

Abe, I certainly agree with the all-cruiser stuff! Thats the major consideration when you brought this to mind.

I've never driven an 80 series truck, so I can't compare the power they have. I bet the 80 weighs close to the 45LV.

Again, any idea on the 'full-time' 4wd issue? I don't want to be spinning the front drive while I'm on the highway! That kills fuel-mileage. I'm sure there is a way to disengage that feature of the stock 80 drivetrain.

Anyone know the trans/xfer case numbers/type on the 1FZE?

Hi Jeff,

I don't know how it is done, but I have seen several people over the years post that they have done a Part time conversion on their 80, so it is possible. I don't know if there is a kit you can buy, or if you have to do it all yourself or what...

I agree that an LV and an 80 must weight about the same. I know all of the 80s I have ever driven around Denver were great trucks with pretty good juice. Unfortunately though, I have never driven one up in the mountains, which is where we all seem to lack real power, so I don't know what that is like. I don't know what the Tranny/xfew numbers are on the 80 series. I just looked at SOR quickly, but only saw their part numbers...

You can part time any of the 80 series kits. As far as the centering goes, The Tundra is centered, so that would work fine. Use the complete drivetrain.

Gary-

The LV is off-set in the rear...I think the Tundra and FZJ80s are much wider stance than the LV...Thats something I need to measure.

I don't know what the wheel-base of the 80 is....it may be really close to the 80! I'm sure I could sell the LV rolling chassis (complete with driveline) and swap it out for the 80.

I know the suspension is much better in the 80....but this isn't going to be a rock-crawler!

CCJ, have you looked at the dimensions of a late model Tundra Crew Cab up 06 year? They can be bought in salvage form cheap, i have seen many. i just posted this question, duh, before finding your thread. this is something i have been thinking about for a while bc i am afraid that once i finish my LV, if ever, that in the end i will not like the way it drives and all my work will have been stupid. i have always driven late model trucks with power everything and creature comforts and power are nice. especially with a bad back.

Merbes-

I think the 06 Tundra....even wrecked would cost me the bank just to acquire.....good thought though!

I think they're close in length....width would be an issue, as the LV is MUCH thinner than the Tundra.

The 01-04 Tacoma Double Cabs are a much thinner truck....thinking that would fit nicely under the LV....with a good amount of mods-nontheless.

I think the LV will be sitting a while until I'm done with this FJ40 I've been working on. I haven't posted it up on 'Mud simply because it isn't too exciting....and I'd rather be posting up cooler stuff than a run of the mill FJ40 fixer upper :)

How are things down in Atlanta??? Hope you're doing well!

Does anyone have any other suggestions BESIDES SBC 350 in the LV?

I've decided to build it for comfort and driveability rather than purist. Pure/factory is great, but just not driveable on a daily basis.

iForce V8? 3.4l Tacoma (S/C'd of course) FJCruiser drive?

1hz (t or not). I'll have that combination functional before I die, or my estate will inherit it :) All I have to do is put the pieces together, I have already collected the big items (45, engine, H55, thus, maybe in 2008/09). Bob

As Bob mentioned the 1hd-t or 1hz turbo both make good power.

The 1hd-t engine in a heavey 81 series cruiser with factory tires and suspension is getting around the 24MPG highway canuck, the FT 24 valve motor is said to get over 26MPG highway.

That said, bigger tires and slight mods to the 1hd-ft engine can build some very nice power with small mods.

Locally there is a fellow acquiring a 1hd-FT factory five speed combo for his aqualua body tub stretched 6 inches in the cab and aluminum box to match. Should be able to pump nearly 185HP and over 300 foot pounds of torque and move the FJ45 nicely with 36s.

The package is by no means cheap, nor is it a ridiculious price, his plan is to purchase a complete vehicle and sell of odds and ends to get the total package down around 6500.00, we will see if that happens? I have tried talking him into transfering the suspension from the 80 into the 45.

Good luck
Rob
