I would like to hear from folks that have driven both a manual and an automatic transmission in 1FZ powered trucks.

What is the perceived difference in power, response and general "feeling"?

The underlying question is, other than any personal preference of a manual or auto, is there a significant increase in "zippiness" with the manual over the auto?

Thanks,
Mark

I have only driven 80s and 100s with manual transmissions. As far as I'm concerned it's the ultimate way to experience a lc.

The general feeling is that of lots of control and a better feeling for the truck.

I can't speak for zippyness as I've never driven an auto 80 but I've heard that this will be the case due to larger mechanical losses through an auto tranny to the wheels.

So to help clear up my understanding... both of these were available in the Canadian market?

Foot to the floor performance, no difference at all.

I rekon that the power at the wheels you lose with the auto, is offset by the slow shift times of the manual.

Auto pros are it has a taller overdrive, and smoother acceleration.
Auto cons are that it's only a 4 speed, so towing or hill starts feel quite sluggish. The electronic shifting is not particularly smart either.

Manual pros are better performance for towing heavy loads
Cons are that the spread of gears is very uneven. It needs a 6 speed close ratio box (especially for the diesel models)
