Someone on this forum posted a pic of his Ridies seat covers and they did not look like these pics. There were a little oversized causing wrinkles all around, especially the armrests and center console. 😬

I installed Ridies a few years ago, and I thought the fit and finish were great. They do take a couple of weeks to settle in and the "loose" looking wrinkles go away. They are higher quality leather than OEM, but they will wear more like traditional leather because they lack the factory "glazing." That's a term I made up, I don't know what to call the shiny finish factory leather has. As a result, my seats do have finish wear in places, just like you'd expect from a well used leather jacket. If my truck lived a city life and didn't spend a lot of time out on the trails getting dirty, and if I was better about cleaning and conditioning them, I expect they would wear better. I also got the perforated leather, which doesn't help matters.

Now, I think their customer service is about zero, so you best check out the covers well when they arrive so you can try to get them replaced if necessary, or dispute the charge to your credit card if needed. The next best thing on the market is probably double the price or more.

@Ridies we appreciate the vendors, but sounds like some direct communication would go a long way here. Also, an LS400 is not a Land Cruiser.

I've done a few of these installs myself — the fit question that keeps coming up with covers like these (not just Ridies, any aftermarket set) is really about break-in time and how the original foam has settled.

The factory leather on a 20+ year old LX is usually pretty thin by now, and the OEM foam underneath has compressed significantly. New covers over tired foam will look wrinkled no matter how good the leather is. What I've found works is adding a thin layer of new foam under the new cover — just 1/4" to 3/8" rebonded foam cut to the seat shape before fitting the new skin. Makes a world of difference for getting that tight, factory look.

The glazed finish question is real. Factory Toyota/Lexus leather has a surface treatment that's part urethane coating — it's what makes it wipe-clean easy and gives that sheen. You won't replicate that with raw full-grain leather, but full-grain will actually age more gracefully if you keep up with conditioning.

If someone's getting persistent wrinkles after a few weeks of settling, especially on the armrests — worth having the shop re-stretch and re-tack before writing off the whole set.

The question that keeps coming up with these isn't about fit, it's about the plastic piece used to attach to the frame that doesn't have enough space to wrap around the bar, as well as a few posts of quality issues (stitches coming undone within a short time of install) and no responses to those questions, either here on the forum or more importantly, through direct channels of the company.

@discoverydave did you have the issue of the plastic piece not wrapping around the seat frame?

Not sure if this is a more recent problem or guys are doing workarounds.

Crazy frustrating because you think you are “almost done” and then realize it cannot work.

I just cut the small diameter plastic in half and used a couple sheet metal screws to hold that part in place. Really no big deal. It’s not like you’re going to take it on and off.

Eh, I'd say big deal, for the money spent, you shouldn't have to modify it to fit. If you're having it installed, that shop's not going to know to do that, and if they don't, the lower could come unpeeled.

Except the next price point is double the cost. For that I’m willing to sacrifice a little. My seats have held up great and fit well. I did replace the driver seat foam and steamed the rest, which did restore volume.
