Do you have a baseline tune for that camshaft? What cam is it?

The motor sent from Astro Wreckers in California had a bad lifter and cam bearing.

Until we get the issue straightened out with Astro Auto Wrecking of Wilmington CA, I cannot recommend them and advise folks on the forum not to do business with them.

I dont not have a profile for the camshaft. Currently I have a local guy who is sharp as a tack do my tuning for me via HP Tuners. He does it live in the vehicle for optimum result, so he not only sees the tune but feels how the car responds. Ill look through our paperwork on the cam, it has a wide powerband.

Comp cam chromo push rods and Scorpion roller rockers set in place.

Mañana she gets dressed and place in the rig. Also getting the injectors rebuilt and cleaned. More pics to follow

This motor was available in the Yukon Denali, Silverado SS and Cadillac Escalade (and a few others). I have done a bunch of reading on it and it is a popular motor because of the cast iron block (can handle higher horsepower than aluminum) and flat top pistons. The LQ4 is almost exactly the same, but with dished pistons and lower compression (therefore less power).

It features high-compression (10:1) flat-top pistons for an extra 10 hp (7 kW) and 10 lb·ft (14 N·m), bringing output to 345 hp (257 kW) and 380 lb·ft (515 N·m)

Jonathan upped these numbers by installing the Comp Cam, Titanium (double) valve springs, roller lifters, chrome moly pushrods and Scorpion roller rockers. Not sure if the Hooker headers and 3" exhaust added much, but I am hoping for about 400 HP when all is said and done.

This particular motor was a crate motor after the original motor was found to have a seized cam bearing, stuck lifter, was an LQ4 (not an LQ9) and had almost 3x as many miles on it than the seller stated. That motor is going to sit for a while, but will probably be rebuilt into an LQ9 by replacing the pistons.

All that being said, I didn't know sh!t about motors until Jonathan started this project with me, but now I know a bit more...

400hp is easily obtainable with our mods. Where we will really squeeze it out is through the tune.
