I have a 1996 Black / Tan locked FZJ80 for sale in MS. It doesn't smoke at start up or when it's running, and it has excellent oil pressure. The engine is noise-free and it idles and runs great. I have noticed some oil dripping at the front of the engine, and I've not looked hard enough to determine if it's leaking from the cam cover, front cover or the front seal. I always assume it's going to be the "least easy" item to fix, so I'll assume it's the front seal (although that's not where it looks like it's leaking - even if it turns out to be, it's not that difficult or expensive to repair) However, it could be as simple as the cam cover leaking. Also, there is tape on the rubber intake hose, so I presume it'd be the better part of wisdom to replace this as well.

Everything on the truck functions as it should, including PS, PW, PDL, Cruise, lights, A/C, heater, lighting, moon roof, front/rear diff locks engage easily.......and EVEN the antenna!) The black paint is exceptionally nice, especially for a '96, and the factory body panel stickers can be found on all of the body panels........I certainly could have missed something, but I can't find any indication that the truck has ever been painted. The tan interior is worn in places - a characteristic of all but the least-used 80's - but it's not torn. The front seat cover bottom center panel (the one that's most susceptible to being torn)) has been repaired by being lengthened by inserting a panel at the rear of the original panel (underneath the seat back and where you'd sit.) It's something that you'd really not notice, unless you compared the two seats. The passenger side (which hasn't been repaired) has the factory front "rib" in it, while the driver's seat now looks more like a Lexus without the "rib." In any event, whoever did it came up with a pretty clever repair.

I'm sure you'll have additional questions, so please either post them here or send me a PM. KBB Private Party "good" for one with miles/equipment/condition like this is $6,400, but I'm asking $5,900

Hey, a small request from me to anyone who might be considering this truck: If you don't have the ability or authority to make a purchase decision without first getting the approval of your wife (er, I mean spouse), please don't ask me to spend hours of my time to allow you to dream. Case in point: I had two different guys come by to look at it on the same day this week (one who saw it on MUD and one who saw it locally). I spent an hour or so with each of them as they inspected/drove/discussed/negotiated, and when they finished, they both had virtually the same comments, like "this is exactly what I want," "it's in excellent condition," "this is a fair price for a truck in this kind of condition," etc., etc., etc., and "I'm pretty certain I'll be back tomorrow to pick it up (one even offered me a deposit).........but I have to talk to my wife first" Well, "shockingly," they BOTH called me back the same evening (within an hour of each other) to tell me "well, my wife nixed the idea of the truck."

Now, I know every situation is different, and I'm sensitive to the fact that there can be legitimate reasons for not making an automotive purchase; however, if your specific situation just boils down to a case of HER pair is bigger than YOUR pair, PLEASE, PLEASE, look at another truck! (I don't know if it's just the market climate we're in these days, but I've never seen chronic indecisiveness like I see in people these days!)

Thanks for your indulgence. I just had a little rant there.........

Trade for a Rabbit GTI? It gets 28-32mpg and has been well maintained. Is my daily driver in the summer and has many updates including suspension, brakes, and tires.

When I sold my FJC recently I got this a few times, I think it's just the easiest excuse and is more polite than...

"I don't trust you."
"This is overpriced/not good."
"I was just looking."

etc

I honestly don't think it was a case of any of that. When someone offers to give me a deposit (and I must admit my own stupidity in not taking it), I believe a person to be seriously interested. I just think these two "buyers" suffer from a far too common, sometimes incurable illness called "smallus ballus proximitus." SBP is a somewhat serious condition in which the sufferer experiences a conspicuous reduction in the size of their balls the closer they get to their wives. As the obvious feminization of America continues, I'm afraid we're going to see a marked increase in the incidence of this debilitating condition.

I almost forgot to ask if you have the third row seats. For me, it is important to have them since I have five kids.

Edit: Can you post up some shots of the undercarriage as well?

Just had a guy call me who is interested in replacing his 600,000 mile 1991 FJ80!!! It's on a replacement engine (replaced at just over 400,000 miles!), yet he said everything else is ORIGINAL!...........maybe none of the FZJ80 owners on here (including me) are asking enough????????

This is what I deal with on a daily basis. It is the most frusterating part of the business. What ever happened to "If I like it I'm buying it" or does that only exist in my house.

AMEN brotha, AMEN! I feel your frustration! All I'm hearing is talk, talk, talk! At the end of the day, even at my full asking price, the realistic downside is probably only a couple thousand dollars over the next ten years (if THAT much!).......as I said above, my price is Less than a USED 4-wheeler!

Good to hear someone is not nutered yet. Do they want another one?

Yeah, this guy was stand-up. He made a decision to buy it, and his wife seemed excited about it.

Do you have another one for sale? I have a friend who just told me he might be interested in finding an 80.........
