Id like to thank every one for pitching in on this, it was a fun one!:beer::beer:
I think I searched my kick panel about 5 times trying to find a square black relay...:hillbilly:

Well if you ever have a condition where it has to crank for about 3-5 seconds before it fires up, its most likely that relay.

I seriously wonder if Toyota deleted it with the new MAF. The relay starts the fuel pump when the key is at start, and if it fails the MAF sends a secondary signal to start the pump when it reads enough air flow.
The picture in your first post is from a 91. The 3FE did not use the ECU to run the fuel pump like the 1FZ.
The circuit opening relay for the 3FE has 2 coils. The first coil is energized when the starter motor is cranking. The flap on the AFM energizes the second coil to keep the fuel pump running after the starter circuit shuts down. This also shuts the fuel pump in the event of a motor stall.

The COR in a 1FZ has a single coil and is energized from the ECU. There is a separate fuel pump relay that controls voltage to the fuel pump. This relay is also fired from the ECU.
The COR is located in the left kick panel and the FP relay is located on the left fender.

Very cool, I was hoping you would chime in John! most of what I have learned about this system I have gleaned from your posts!

I have this hard start at times (the whole reason for this relay post...) and my CEL does not come on.
The CEL should illuminate with the key in the ON/RUN position before cranking the starter. This indicates the EFI system is in a "ready" state. If your CEL does NOT illuminate, then this is not a fuel delivery issue.

Thanks Jon, your awesome! I was hasty on the no CEL light answer, I interpreted his question as a constant CEL light when the relay goes bad, I will check during lunch..

The EFI relay (under the hood) is the same as the center top (window Pwr) missing relay in my previous picture. What this means is you always have a spare.

Yeah, I was aware that some of the relays were interchangeable, but I like to have spares in the rig at all times.. call me a pack rat!!
There is an empty spot in the fuse/relay tray under the hood where you can keep a spare EFI relay, this is where I keep mine! :)

Exactly where we recommend people to store the relay when the do the window power mod

CEL light function is normal.

My CEL does not illuminate with the key in the on position. What does that mean?
It means that the ECU is not in a ready state and the engine won't run.
Or, if the engine runs, then the CEL bulb is burnt out.
