I have a 1994 Toyota pick up, with a 22re in it, and it has 315k on it, I'm thinking about swapping it to a 3.0 V6 Yota motor, and maybe even a diesel swap is being thought of.... What's your guys thoughts, any advise? Or suggestions?

There's a reason they refer to it as the 3.Slo... I'd keep the 22R over going to one.

Check out the 3.4 swaps and 4.3 swaps if you want something else. Lots of information out there.

There's no way I would swap a 3.0 in place of a 22RE. Waay to much work for little gain, gas mileage is worse, and that engine is a PAIN to work on. You tranny won't swap either.

If you can get one, go for a 3.4L. Otherwise, keep the 22RE.

3RZ is a good swap for a 22re, newer 4cyl from tacomas, etc. 150 HP stock and adapt to your tranny. It is what I'll eventually put in my '85 4Runner. If V6, don't do a 3.0 it's toyota's least desirable truck motor. As said, a 3.4 is waaay better.

4BT cummins swap... just cut a huge ass hole in your hood or make a 6in body lift.

if you have the money you could put just about anything in there. the 3rz is the most common swap for your particular truck. the 3.4 is the most common swap if you currently have a 3.0(slow). this is mostly due to those motors mating up to the transmissions. you can put a 3.4 in place of the 22-re but it is a lot more expensive and you may not have the hood clearance for it. check out this site for some info Home Page

How about a straight 6 toyota supra motor. The motor mounts are the same for a 22re IIRC.

Click on Toyota truck and 4Runner, then select Motor Conversion, you want to look for the 3rz engine conversion components. In addition you will need to swap out the ECU and all the engine wiring harness and some of the dash harness. The 3RZ is an OBDII ECU, and uses a Mass Air Flow system, the good side is a better engine management system the does not use a restrictive Air Flow Meeter, better HP (150), 4 valve head and duel overhead cams, bad is the wiring you will have to do, same though if you go with a 3.4l V6.

tdi, is the way to go

tdi is a nice way to go but it requires a lot more work/knowledge and also it depends on where you live. in california or new york for instance it is not going to be easy these days to register a vehicle that was coverted to diesel. also in california at least the motor you replace has to be the same year or newer only so in this case 1994 or newer donor motor.

How about a straight 6 toyota supra motor. The motor mounts are the same for a 22re IIRC.

this is also a good swap option but finding a good donor vehicle is not easy anymore as people have been raping these cars for parts for a long time.

the 3rz/ 22re swap is rapidly becoming the most popular swap because there are so many of them(3rz) in the US and the older the tacomas/t100s get, the more donor vehicles become available. also the aftermarket is starting to support this swap and with good old competition we will start seeing more and cheaper conversion kits.

I like mine. No body lift or cut hood...
