1994 FJ80: Can I remove my cat-converter without confusing my oxygen sensors? If I replace my cat-converter what do I need to be sure of?

I was told some time ago that due to the O² sensor system that completely removing the catalytic converter would cause the vehicle to throw codes due to a discrepancy in O² readings. I have a 1994 who's exhaust splits into two pipes to run through a dual pipe catalytic converter and back into one pipe after it. I was told that there is a sensor before the cat and after the cat that made sure the exhaust was cleaner coming out but my sensors are both placed before the cat. What will happen if I remove my cat? What risks come with removing it vs replacing it? If I replace it, what should I replace it with?

You can remove and be fine because your O2 sensors are upstream. Many people have done this and end up adding a cat because of the gas smell from the exhaust. I just did this for a friend on a 94. I ordered a new Magnaflow 23120 this will
Bolt right up to you manifolds. Then delete your pair valve and put the o2 sensors in your exhaust manifolds. Take it to an exhaust shop and have them connect your new cat and just before your muffler inlet.
