So I don’t see a busted con rod. I don’t see bad scoring in the bores. In fact I don’t see much. Perhaps BEB or wrist pin. Further tear down required which probably won’t happen until I either buy another engine stand or free up the one with an 1HDFT on it.

Lots of metal flakes in the pan but no big chunks.

Pretty, although the block is not painted good enough for me.

Looks like bottom end bearings on the old engine, not so sure how much I care since I have the new block and this Cruiser came to me with a dead engine.

Like I said, Toyota didn’t paint it good enough for me so taping it off for a real paint job.

Got a nice round of parts in the way as well.

Factory paint on the block comes right off with a finger nail.

A good scuff, wash and I should be ready to go. Keeping it black.

Got a little bit more done today. I decided to order a new oil pump pickup, the old one the screen was packed with fine aluminum flakes and it was proving time consuming to get them all out. That means I can’t put the oil pan on until it comes in next week.

That’s all I had time for as I am doing some POR15 work on a clients build.

I did put in a bit more time last night and this morning.

Got the bottom half of the intake manifold 90% clean.

Top half is next.

I just barely started in on the throttle body.

The dizzy is mostly clean, still a bit of burnt oil on the gear.

Will we see a turbo on this? You know one of those "while you are in there" sorta things.

Ha!

Yes but not now. Budget already tapped. I will break it in for 10-20k miles first.

By the way, this is a non-US 1FZFE engine seal kit. More than half the price of the USA kit and comes with the head gasket. So far it looks like everything is spot on in the kit.

You can buy this kit online at places like www.amayama.com and www.partsouq.com.

So I need a few pins and dowls, don’t care to fight the old ones in the block when I can buy them cheap. Those are in route to me.

Going to change the studs on the oil pickup mount, the new one is much thinner where it mounts and the old studs not going to work.

I am replacing oil pump and it’s gear, timing chain, harmonic balancer, oil relief valves and springs, timing chain guides and tensioner, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, some senors/sending units, all seals and gaskets and I am installing ARP head bolts. Little bit of new hardware like flywheel and torque converter and that is about it.

Cheers
