Starting on a fuel carrier for driver swingout. 3/16" steel so it's pretty heavy but should be fine. Wanted to be able to use contents of jerry cans without removing them from carrier as much as possible so using a Front Runner water container with spout at the bottom. A space was made in the carrier for the spout. Using 2 Scepter fuel cans as well. Left a little space on the carrier to store a shaker siphon hose. Plan is to open swing out and refuel without taking cans out of carrier. Should be able to finish it up tonight. Need to order more bed liner to coat it.

That two tone looks awesome!

Center is locking and so is the front but rear will not lock. I didn't actually have to pull the CDL indicator switch. While messing around with it in the driveway, I engaged 4 low, pushed the center diff lock button, put it in reverse and slowly backed up. CDL light came on within about 6 inches of rolling backwards. It never flashed before hand, it was off until it locked then on. I repeated this a few times and it will lock up every time. Next engaged front/rear lockers and front locked up within a few seconds, I was rolling forward very slowly and it popped right in. The rear would not lock. I took it over to a dirt road and did circles for a bit with rear lock only but no luck.

While testing all of this out I found I have another issue. I must not have packed the driver side birf well enough because when I lock the front and attempt to turn it pops pretty bad. It only does it with the front locked, I've never heard it while driving around under normal conditions even in sharp turns. So questions... Will just adding moly to the knuckle solve the problem? I pulled the plug yesterday and it looks to be about half full. From what I remember from the manual it should be 3/4 full. I am going to pick up another tube of the same stuff I used to rebuild with and add some, 1/4 tube at a time, to see if that helps. When I did the rebuild I didn't swap the birfs sides and now I'm wishing I did. I only have 65,000 miles on it so I thought I could wait until the next time around. If adding moly doesn't work I'll order some gaskets and pull the birf and repack it.

I also have a cluck noise that only occurs on turns when I have a little bit of body roll. I can feel it directly under my feet. I'm thinking it may be lower control arm bushings. The rear passenger side bushing doesn't look to good and the bushing sits over to the far left side of the rear hanger. So plan is to start there with bushings and I'll take it from there if the noise is still there. (I've already gone through everything and made sure nothing is loose)

Changed rear diff fluid which turned out to be more of a job that I had expected. Drain diff, then go to pull fill plug and notice, oh :censor:, it's totally stripped! In the future I'll be sure to pull fill plug then drain plug to make sure I don't end up stuck with a drained diff and no way to add fluid... Ended up welding a piece of 1" square tubing to the plug so I could get a wrench on the tubing to pull it out. Filled it back up put the bad drain plug in and drove to the toyota parts dept this morning and picked up a new plug.

Never a dull moment... ;)

Did you ever figure out your clunk noise from the left front during body roll? I have the same noise and think it may be in the front axle. Also that rear bumper looks nice, I really like the design.

The clunk noise turned out to be the pan hard bar. I had my wife turn the wheel from side to side until it clunked and I could see the pan hard bar move just a tiny bit. Torqued to spec and the noise stopped. I now re-torque all of the steering/drive train stuff every other month or so.

Bowtiestang posted a nice build thread on his bumper and I basically copied it. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Hope you find your clunk, I would start by torquing everything that would want to move when turning.

I thought it might be the panhard so I replaced the bushings recently but noise remained. I was hoping you found something I haven't since your description was exactly how mine is. When it pops I feel it under my feet.

Mine makes the same noise once and a great while when I pull into a sharp right turn going downhill.

You guys check your front sway bar mounts to frame?

Yes I actually checked those recently. I have checked every bolt in the front suspension. Either I'm missing something or it's in the axle.

Does it only happen with body roll? Luckily, mine would do it at a complete stop so I could lay under it while someone turned the wheel and figure it out.

Slight turn with some body roll or suspension movement. Sometimes just a little suspension articulation or when I start to turn will make it pop. Usually a combination of both make it happen most.

How about any oblong bolt holes. Like the panhard mounts. Mine where on the frame mount. I welded in a washer on either side. Noise still present.

Funny thing is my 80 didnt make the clunk for months and I just put on 37's, went for a test drive and pulling back into my driveway (downhill hard right turn) and it made the noise (pop) front driv. wheel well area. Just some random info.

X2. I tourqued every nut and bolt in the front and rear end awhile ago. Still same noise in front.

I will be installing new axle's in a couple weeks. Maybe it could be a certain point and load that makes a older birf pop a little.

I like the cut out for the spicket! Are you going to make a top bar for theft protection/securing down?

I thought about it but considering it's fairly heavy already I decided to give this a try:

http://www.lockstraps.com/purchase/

Should be here Friday, it has a steel cable running through the strap to keep someone with a pocket knife from cutting the strap... We'll see how it works out. If it's not up to par I'll make something to run between the can and handles.

I successfully put 10 gallons of gas in my 80 with a shaker siphon. Takes about 3-4 minutes to empty each can.
