1993 FZJ80, 1FZ-FE engine @ 215k miles. Any thoughts on the analysis? This is the first time I have had an analysis run and the miles on the oil were unknown although likely within reason. Regardless, the 0.0 for Antifreeze make me VERY happy. Somewhere along the way I figure it had the HG replaced. I have since switched over to the Shell Rotella T6 5w40 Full Synthetic.

I think they told you all anyone can. I think rotella is a nice choice. Check back in 4k if you're real curious or worried.

Good to hear. I figured if there was anything specific to this engine the folks here would know it. I am still amazed the quality of these rigs and specifically the engine. You just don't see that anymore, which is exactly why I bought this.

I wouldn't assume the head gasket has been replaced. Lots of high mileage FZJs with original head gaskets. If the half moons on the front of the head under the valve cover have gray FIPG
Chances are good you are still on the original head gasket.

I've thought about doing this for a truck I'm thinking of purchasing.

Are there any other things to look for besides
0 antifreeze for signs of HG failure???

How long was the wait for results????

Interesting on the HG. I will keep watch for any signs of trouble and just enjoy not needing to replace it.

The results only took about 2 days once they received them, $25. Well worth it IMHO...

Yeah, $25. It's one of the last best deals if you like data. Assuming a good radiator and fan clutch, go have some fun.

Radiator is essentially new (is even the metal OEM style originally on the '93), I think fan clutch is as well. Woot!

None of the 80 series from 1991-1997 for the U.S. market came with OEM metal radiators. All rads were plastic with different metals used for the cores depending on model year.

Not true. Only the 95-97 that I know of used the plastic. Mine was recently replaced with a 93-95 OEM all metal rad.

Yeah, my '93 came with a brass radiator.

I love the Rotella T6. I use it in all the engines I own including generators and lawn mowers. The only engine I didn't use it in was my 1FZ before the diesel conversion only because it made my leaks drip more. I had to go back to conventional Rotella T to slow them down.
If it was me I would do another analysis after a few oil changes with the T6 then see how it looks again.

Curious about the half moon statement. On my engine (with original head) half moon on the left has gray seal, one on the right doesn't look like much in the way of seal. Does this imply anything?

Great results BTW!

Turn around time is very fast once they get it. I mailed out mine last week on Monday from Chandler AZ to Indiana and by Thursday I had my results and used regular postage.

FWIW anyone who does regular engine oil analylsis can save $5 per test if they buy prepaid tests from Blackstone labs, $20 each.

Interesting. IFIRC, the right "moon" is the one required to be accessed (camshaft bolt for removing the drive gear) when a head job is done. I'd say your head has been removed since the date it was manufactured. If the FIPG is applied sparingly, you wouldn't see a lot of squeeze out. The factory would have used a uniform amount on both access ports. And the repair FIPG would most likely be black.

Hmm. You need to check who replaced your radiator. I'm guessing is was an OEM equivalent.
All 80 series in the usa came with plastic upper and lower tanks and metal core. 95-97 use aluminum core vs brass for the 93-94 years. And yes 91-92 also had plastic tanks. I've looked at all model years on dealer lots back in the day.

I replaced it and ordered it straight from the source, Toyota. It was a 93-94 rad.

Just went out and checked. You are correct it does have a plastic top. It is much thicker than the 97 rad I had.
