Priced at $24,000. In your opinion, is it priced fair with the problems listed? How much would this cost to fix at a shop? Appreciate any advice.

Apologies if formatting incorrect. First time posting.

Personally I would skip it because of the frame rust. I do my own welding and could easily plate it but who knows what the inside of the frame looks like. Also the fresh paint on the frame combined with the holes scream rust covered up. The other stuff just takes a few weekends and a few bucks unless you're not handy then it will cost you a bunch to fix. For a few thousand dollars more I think you can find a nicer truck. Just my opinion, others here may tell you something completely different.

I appreciate the honesty. Definitely considering this but want to hear if others share same opinion.

Hello,

Frame rust is a red flag.

Yes, it is possible to repair the frame. However, it is hard to see what lurks beneath the holes.

Oil leaks are another red flag. Perhaps it is just a gasket in need of replacement. Or perhaps it is something more serious.

For that price, the seller should have fixed the issues.

As a project, it may be interesting if and only if the price is right.

I would go through it with a very fine toothcomb and offer a lot less than the asking price. Or I would look for another truck.

Do not spend money you cannot afford to lose.

Thanks Juan for the in depth response. In your opinion, what would be a fair offer for this?

Hello,

I would offer $10000 to $12000.

Rust and other repairs can add up very quickly, especially if you do them properly.

I forgot to mention the drive train. It might be chewed up, especially if the truck has (or had) big and wide tires. Another expensive repair.

When it comes to diesel engine repair, as the saying goes, get your wallet ready.

That looks to me like body structure rust on the underside of the body, not actual chassis rust. Not as critical from a safety standpoint but equally difficult and expensive to repair.

You need in my opinion “mad skills” to fix the floor substructure and crossmembers.

That is just my opinion “man”.

Good luck!

Cheers

Certainly a body off job to do it right, depending on where the rust is.

The leaks at a glance don’t look that seriose to fix , neither very expensive.
But they mark a point !
Low and bad care .ref holes in the frame , for me that only would mean a skip.
I won’t by it even at 5K.
To properly fix it , if it is every fixable means to take off the body , and stars a deep dive in $$$$$.
Another bad sign is the over sized tires .huge and unnecessary stress on the driveline.
Don’t buy a problem

Just my 2 cents

If you’re in Hawaii and buying there, there’s a guy who was at a time selling some of his collection. No affiliation, but his trucks looked much better in my eyes. Maybe worth reaching out.
