hello, thank you for viewing my first thread. I dont have a 85 4runner yet , but I will in a few months , when I get the funds, but I was wondering how much should I expect to pay for a good condition rust free , maybe with a chevy 350 , 85 4runner. thanks in advance

If it's close to stock but with a 350, no or very little rust.... I'd say between 1500 and 3000 depending on how well the conversion was done, and overall condition of the vehicle, and if a 350 4Runner is what you want. If it has other mods, then that may change things... etc...

Welcome to Mud!!!! :flipoff2: Glad to have you, and we're gonna need pics when/if you get it! :cheers:

I'd look for an unmolested Runner with the 22RE. I owned one for 10 years before moving to the 4 door fJ62, six years ago, on my wife's request. Great trucks. Saw one several months ago for sale in Idaho going for about 4500. It's pretty difficult to locate one anymore that either isn't rusty or hasn't been butchered up.

ok thanks , I just got off the phone with my friend , and he said a friend of a friend has a 85 4runner , with a chevy 350 , 350 turbo trans with only 1500 miles on engine and trans , with 40 inch tires , Detroit Lockers, 4.88 gears in rear Dana axle, body and undercarriage in good condition . but he said he didnt know how much he is going to sell it for yet. if he is going to sell it what price would a truck like that fetch. that way if he asks way to much I will know . thanks

Personally I'm not into domestic swaps, it kills the mojo factor for me... If it's a nice truck and the swap is good and there's documentation on the engine trans, I'd say 2500-3500. That whole set up makes it sound like it was a mud bogger kind of truck... look it over really well before you make any decisions.

I got an 85 runner with the efi. It has stock everything. Has rust showing in multiple spots and needs lots of work. The odometer shows 317k but the previous owner said it had a rebuild 140 ago( judging by the current state of the motor I don't know if that is true or not) I got it for $1800 and it was advertised for $2500. This truck has never been lifted or modified in anyway. I think the only thing they did was put extended shackles in the rear to bring up the rear end. If I was you I would look for one as close to stock as possible and steer clear of the 350, those toyotas werent built to handle big V8's.

40" tires? On stock axles? Behind a big V8? You'd be buying a LOT of parts as they start snapping.

I never understood the attraction to the V8 swap thing. The stock drivetrain is the heart and soul of the vehicle.

I'm puttin my black beauty on the market very soon, pls see my recent post 'price reality check' for a link to all the fun stuff - end thread jack.

As with others here, I completely agree with preserving the stock-ish motor setup, and further assert that most folks dont need anything larger than 31" tires 99% of the time. Assuming proper gearing and driving technique.

That of course is not necessarily true if you are aiming for a hainus rock crawler or mud slinger, or want the 'bad mo fo' look.

i would not know that, i run them till they fall apart then strip them. sorry if my blood sweat and tears are in it and then i try to sell it well then i deserve to take a loss. what i could not handle is some one got a good rig and will not respect it cause they do not have their blood sweat and tears in it. sorry thats my .02

every 4x4 i ever got i got bone stock at least 10 years old and at least 100k...then i fixed,built and beat it into what it is and i can say this......you spend way more $$$ than youll EVER see from a buyer on the open market.....but......you know every nut,bolt,screw,rust spot,weak spot,install trick,what tools you need,and how old each individual component is.......for instance i joke that my 85 4runner is actually an 05 cause that year i put a reman long block in and used all new gaskets, hoses, plugs,wires,cap,rotor,alternator,starter,etc ...that kind of info is invaluable and buying a well used mud/rock truck is a gamble.....but the initial purchase can be a bargain....good luck..

P.S. wanna buy my 85 for what i got in it??....about $18,000..lol:grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp::grinpimp:
