1984 HJ47 Troopy $21.5k obo/trade

1984 HJ47 Troop Carrier "Troopy" $21.5k obo/trade

Imported 2009 from the interior of Queensland in Stanthorpe. The truck was owned by the same owner for 23 years and sold after the gentleman passed away- So that is 3 total owners including me. The 71 year old lady said it was his favorite... they used the truck on their 300 acres vineyard and it has the feel of your Dad's old reliable truck.

361,000 kilometers about 225,000 miles Diesel
2H - runs like a top, starts every time cold or hot, an occasional small puff of smoke when started but otherwise never really seen any smoke out of the tail pipe even after sitting for a couple weeks without running- fires up like you just drove it the day before. Not sure if it has ever been rebuilt?

Does not Drip any oil-

4 speed tranny, feels very tight, no grinds, granny first gear.

Air Conditioning, the air will hold cold for a couple days and then leaks out, blows cold, but I will have to replace a hose, and am looking for one now, Front disc brakes (Stops VERY well) looks to be a new master and brake setup.

No power steering, all the glass looks to be good. Some things I would do to it would be new door strikers, door seals, and window felt.

It has a New water pump and Rebuilt Alternator, R&R belts/hoses/fluids.

New Front Seats Recaro style- not sure if they are real or fake leather but very comfortable.

Looks to have a small lift 2-3" on it with heavy duty springs, 5 Brand New BFG MT KM2, 255/85r16 (33" tall) She cruises good and over the last 3 tanks of fuel it has been consistent 22.3mpg.

The body is in fair to good shape and is a "used" truck but not abused or as the previous owner stated "never beached or taken outback." Being around the interior of AUS the rust is minor and only seems to be the front floor boards the passenger side has a hole about golf ball with that being the only apparent rust no other bubbles or anything around there, the drivers side has a few small thumbnail holes along the inside door floor edge.

The paint is a good 20 footer with good gloss and shine, it has been repainted and bondo is present on the passenger front fender and along the rear pass fender and drivers rear corner, up close the paint is showing age and touch ups. I got a quote at a great body shop in town for $5500 will redo the following in top notch quality, 2 front floorboard edge r/r rust, paint interior and exterior with full disassembly, latches, door strikers, rubbers etc so that is pretty good and they do awesome work but it gives you an idea on condition, does not need $10k worth of body work.

Has an awesome "ROO or BULL BAR" on the front, the rear troopy step is slightly dinged but functions well and would be an easy fix. The PO also told me that it is supposedly one of only 1000 made (A/C maybe???) and she was told that by the Toyota parts dealer once when ordering something... I have not researched that.

She is a GREAT daily driver or driver/restore truck that you can all pile and go without worry of getting it dirty as it is not a 100 point show car but a great driver! Nice enough to garage while driving and restoring/renewing.

I get a TON of compliments on it and drive it all over town Super reliable! It can burn veggie oil! I wish I could keep her but will have to wait until the timing is better for my family. Feel free to call me 850-687-7551 with questions and if you have a trade please email pictures to me at dogochelo@hotmail.com with what your value is, miles, condition, owners, maint etc I am only looking to trade even or down with cash to make the difference.

I am not a car dealer and am looking for specific trades, but you never know...:steer: $21.5k obo this is the only site listed for sale...

Hello Anthony,

Not sold yet, I have a couple serious lookers and one serious buyer that is simply waiting on a maturity date for an investment.

uhmmmm how do I answer this? :crybaby: As I am torn to sell it........ that's why it has taken me so long to respond :bang: I know I should keep this truck, its a sickness, I am already looking at an 80 project builder and another 40 series- just in-case I sell this I will have a Cruiser to tinker with. I know I know, why bother selling, just keep the Troopy (ARGHHHH THE VOICES!)

yes I am confident it would make it across the country:steer:.

KEEP IT!

Your going to sink how much into a freaking GAS 80? or a 40. Its stupid.
Hang onto it for the kids! Hands down way cooler than any of those other ones.
If you can afford to keep it your going to miss out buying a tiny 40 series or a 80 mall queen.
Just silly talk. You'll regret it.....

do i need a troopy? no.
do i like this troopy? yah.

it is the right color, last year of the old body style, rare in this condition ... hummm...

best of luck in the sale.

You are helping me cope, I agree and must be brain dead when I post it for sale. I even bought a for sale sign, but it just won't make it to the window. In fact I had to start my Camry today just to run her after a couple days of not running (old habit) b/c I've been driving the troopy now that it rides out smooth!

Deffinitely want to keep her and don't really need to sell her... sooo...... maybe this post will just sink into the forum and be forgotten or a "wire" will come into the bank account.

I'll let him reply himself, but I'm not so sure he is selling it.

I have my dream truck in this Troopy, as my friend calls it, "The Holy Grail of Diesel Cruisers..." I don't know about that, but the funds could be used for real estate investment, and in the future I will have another property and it will eventually pay for another HJ47! Let's face it, cash can always be used. Especially when I have 3 vehicles and one driver now, and have to rent storage to keep the Troopy at.

I will sell it, the price is $21,500 obo

Hey man!

I have thought about wheeling your 4runner many times, pass by a few trails I want to explore in that thing! :steer: I am too Chicken to beat up the Troopy on a tight trail.....

Selling the Troopy is tough as far as what I want to do. What would I replace it with? another troopy? Why sell it then. A regular FJ40? BOOOO maybe a LWB Diesel truck, YEAH!, but then that's why I bought the troopy for the Dogs to be out of the elements and have room for family. But the only person that really rides in it is me :hhmm: Maybe that's a good thing!

I run across Real Estate deals every day.... so the only replacement for the Troopy would be for me to make more money with the funds to build an even better troopy! :crybaby:

Have a good one!

I think about wheeling it too. Unfortunately I don't ever have the time. I think about Troopies all the time. Yours might be cooler to use for running errands and hauling dogs in, but when I do have the chance to go wheeling, I would hate to tear up the Troopy too.

Alas, as much as I like yours, I can't justify the expense. Good luck.

I dont understand why you would sell your dream truck. I JUST DONT GET IT. You cant replace that for 20grand. Good luck with your decision.

P.s Dad and I were in the HJ 61 a couple of weeks ago. A guy walked up to us and said I will give you 15grand for that. I thought for a minute ( well we payed 10 for it) installed clutch, recharged airconditioning and have been making the underneath look like Barrett - Jackson quality. I said thanks but no thanks. He said if he had it , he wouldnt sell it either.

Very Nice Troopy ! I hope you keep her unless you made a deal already.

there is the point, if you don't need the money AND you are in love with it, why sell it?

usually when i stick a vehicle up forsale it is because i am bored of it.
