For sale: 7/1984 FJ40 LX. I have owned her for 12 years. I bought her in Australia and we brought her to America with us when we moved here in 2013. In Australia she was my daily driver, but here she has always been a second car. She always lived in South Australia, which is a very dry part of Australia and has always been garaged. When we moved to the US we moved to New Mexico, where she has also always been garaged. We moved to Florida two weeks ago, and that is where she is now: not long enough to have suffered any ill effects from the relentless humidity. She has 97,000 miles and looks stunning.

The good:
Very minimal rust. A very small amount just starting at the rear sill.
Air conditioning with brand new Toyota compressor (though it still needs to be charged. . I prefer taking the roof and doors off when it's warm so air con has never been a priority )
Power steering with synthetic ATF
Five speed
Three wipers with factory intermittent function
Full LX interior with no tears
Tachometer
Front quarter Windows, rear sliding Windows
Roll bar
Tinted glass
All new door weather stripping
CD player
Inclinometer
Digital clock
Warn 8274-50
OME springs with 33x10.50x15 BF Goodrich ATs
K&N air filter
Snorkel
All LED lights with Hella H4 headlamps
Fully rebuilt brakes with new disks, calipers and slave cylinders
Fully rebuilt axles with all new Toyota bearings on front and rear HJ61 axles with factory Toyota cable lockers
All new tie rod ends. This truck drives and tracks like a new car
New clutch master and slave cylinders
Leather wrapped steering wheel
New front window felt
Factory carb fully rebuilt by Jim Chenoweth
Runs great on either petrol/gasoline or gas/LPG
Transmission and transfer case shift perfectly and do not leak. Filled with synthetic 75w90
Absolutely stunning aluminium roof rack by awl-TEQ
Receiver hitch and trailer wiring
Fully rebuilt rear drive shaft
Heated driver's seat
Brand new GM HEI distributor
Brand new stainless battery tray

The not-so good:

-The cable lockers work great but I have not yet hooked them up to the interior handles
-The engine leaks a bit of oil from the rear main seal and uses a minimal amount but runs really well
-Everything works on this car except for the windscreen squirter. The tank holds fluid, but the pump has packed it in.
-the factory floor mat on the drivers'side has a small hole in it where my heel has worn through it
-the seat belt on the drivers' side is beginning to fray

I am asking $25,500 for her. She drives like a new car and will not disappoint. I built her to keep her and have a tremendous amount of memories in her. I have owned many, many Cruisers and she is by far my favourite. Unfortunately, family circumstances are such that I must sell her and this is to your advantage. I did not import her to sell her nor did I build her on the cheap to sell her. This was my Cruiser to keep for life and hand down to my son. Sadly, he and I will have to build another one day. She is located in Vero Beach, Florida and can be driven by appointment. I strongly encourage you to have her checked out, but I am confident any mechanic will be impressed (not withstanding the above-mentioned oil leaks). This is the last and the very best Land Cruiser Toyota ever built.

The best way to get hold of me is to email me

Lexie is alive and well living (garaged) in CT since being transported via car carrier up north. She has traveled much of Australia and across the US. Just waxed her this week as she has seen regular use over the last month now that the weather has warmed up. She has been a joy to drive during these crazy Covid-19 days when a back road "Road Trip" is just the ticket to maintain sanity. I've put about 6K miles on her since owning her, so she is not just sitting in the garage. I still have regular communication with the prior owner. He is a great guy, he and the kids enjoy seeing what Lexie is up to. I've been keeping up with his new project which is looking great as of a few weeks ago (no it's not a 40). I had to replace the Dizzy a few years back. Used a new DUI setup and its been working great for years now. I changed the wheels out a few different times but like the current tall skinny setup best ascetically. Running chrome 15" FJ60/4Runner SR5 wheels with 34"x9.5's Supper Swamper TSL bias ply tires as of now. They are not that loud and look very much like a tractor tire. In re-reading the post there was concern about Lexie being RHD. To be honest, I think this really adds to her charm and the story behind Toyota's global production of the beloved FJ40 Land Cruiser. Many veterans have approached me and noted they like the look of the 40. They had seen them during their tours over seas in the 1960's. One vowed to purchase one when he returned to the states and bought a 1968 FJ40. I find the stories other share with me fascinating and am glad that Lexie has put a smile on many faces. RHD shifting was a snap to pick up. I have other manuals and thought the shifting gate would be strange but it doesn't bother me in the least. Biggest issue is that the blinker stalk on Lexie is where my other Toyota's wind shield wiper stalk is. Passing and merging on the hi-way is a bit tricky (as it may be in many 40's) but for the most part I don't drive on the hi-way and I don't pass many people...it's a 40. The lockers work well as promised. What I've enjoyed most is riding with my daughter, wife and I all in the front seat! Puts a smile on my face thinking about it. On a recent trip to the garden shop we got caught in the rain, but alas, we all had our own personal windshield wiper courtesy of the LX triple wipers. So yes, I am very happy with my purchase of a beautiful RHD FJ40 LX named Lexie. Thanks for asking... I've included a few photos as well.

That looks great with the fj-60 rims and Swampers! Josh gave me an update on your rig a month or so ago; he's glad you're enjoying it. He and I go back almost 20 years. We've both owned troopies and FJ-40s and both lived in Santa Fe. My welder burned the final welds on your front spring hangers. I had to laugh that he's built an awesome Jeep Scrambler--I've been keeping an eye out for one as FJ-40s continue to inflate out of my reach.

Finally got a decent color photo. Thanks for sharing the back story on the welding. Figured it was done in while in Australia. If you have any old photos of Lexie kicking around from back in the day I would be interested in seeing them.

The front axle was swapped in Santa Fe. Australia requires an engineering certificate for that kind of mod, so he didn't try to swap it there. If I remember correctly, he did do the rear in AU because it wouldn't be obvious.

I'll have to think if I have any other pics of it. I know he sent me some of an outback trip with a camper trailer and some kangaroos, if I can find them.
