Stripped the driver door to prep for new rubber, felts strips and runs. Biggest pain was getting the wing window frames out.

Took me a bit figure out the wing window has to be slightly open the opposite way you’d normally operate it to have that little arm swing in and come up out.

Gonna clean out the inside of the door over the next few days, treat the minimal surface rust and seal everything up. I’m actually surprised how good of shape the doors are in.

Nice rig:cool: Any chance of getting some detail pictures of the roof. Thinking of doing this but haven't been able to find any detailed photos of how they constructed the pop up section. Thanx

Sweet Troopy project you have! I will pm you some pics in the next week or so.

Finally had time to paint/install the rubber for the wing window and get the surface rust inside of the door treated\sealed up.

Small goals. I can clean the windshield now!

Cleaned both tanks and put a new tank pump and spray nozzle on the hood.

@Redgrr would you mind sharing more photos of your dual battery set up? I have been wanting to add a second battery to my RHD Troopy, but with everything else there (steering column, brake booster, coil, etc), it gets tight. Thanks

its not ideal...I got the truck this way from the PO and I plan on changing it in the future as I don’t like how close it is to the brake line. There is just not a lot of room to fit them both.

I’m gonna put a 3FE in eventually and the air filter housing will be in that spot, the battery relocated to the other side. At that time I’m gonna get the biggest battery I can fit and go to a single battery. At most I’ll have my ARB fridge for battery draw. I have to take the batteries out soon to work on my power steering gear. I’ll pm you a photo of the mount when I do.

I’ve followed your troop thread for years! Any updates lately? Your in Montana still?

Ouch, that brake line IS close. Yes, if you could send me photos of the mount when you take them out, that would be great. Not much progress on mine. The latest is on the thread. Will start back up with the interior soon, as the weather warms up. Yes, still in Montana.

General maintenance and a slow rolling rebuild of this troopy is my goal with this truck. No fancy paint jobs. Maybe some rust repair and rattle can paint at most.

I’ve enjoyed driving this truck too much to tear it all apart and restore it. I did that with my first 40 25 years ago and it was in pieces for 3 years. No thanks.

This Troopy was imported by a gentleman in New Mexico if I remember correctly. It was then sold to a couple in Seattle.

I first saw this 45 in 2008 when I lived there and couldn’t get it out of my head. Finally made a deal with Brian and his wife in August of 2016. Drove it back to South Dakota that following spring after Months of remodel work at my sisters house in Ballard Washington.

I should have started this thread years ago for a place to remember what Ive all done to this truck and places I’ve driven it. I mostly enjoy driving cruisers and not working on them 😂 so I’ll post more travel and fun photos then maintenance details! He is a few random photos I have on my phone. I’ll dig up some more. I bought this troopy and it sat in my sisters garage for 3 months before I got to drive it.

😆 She had a bobcat that liked to perch up on the hood!

Great looking rig - and I love your plans for it.

Love those Disco stripes!

Finished the drivers door. Some heavy construction plastic (6 MIL) I’ve been waiting to find for free on my job sites 😂. $25 roll of butyl tape from o’Reillys auto parts enuf for both sides and then some.

I heated up the seams on the plastic with a hair dryer while hanging and it smoothed out for the most part. Not a restoration so functional not perfect is ok for me.

Major boo boo moment on what I’m guessing is gonna be hard part to find in the US... I tore down the the other door after work today and broke the wing window stud. I was gonna let it soak in penetrating oil over night but didn’t follow my initial plan... Stick to the plan!

I’m kinda wondering if these are the same wing windows from the earlier doors in the states? Gonna reach out to a few people I know have later Australian trucks here in the states..major bummer.

@Redgrrr

Let me see what I can find for you

Awesome... love this place. Thank you.

I didn’t let the broken stud destroy my night completely. I got two layers of window tint cleaned off the main window glass and the window regulator track scrubbed out of the rock hard old lithium grease.

I never noticed before but it appears there was a map of Tasmania and Australia on the hood. I got the “Taz” to show up under the fluorescent light in the pic.
