Wondering if there are any updates on this thread? Also curious as to how that paint held up on top of the galvanized frame. Thanks!
The frame refinishing looks amazing! But how common is it for that to be done during a typical restoration process? Do most of the top restoration shops (like TLC 4x4 for instance) do this as part of their process? In short, do the frames on their Cruisers look as good as yours? 
Or do they really need to?

Here in South Africa it is a well known fact that the chassis will crack after its galvanized.
But only if you use the car in off road conditions.

After 10 years, I'm finally done traveling, got the shop straightened out, and hoping to get back on this. Surely there have been some advances by now? What's top of the line these days for:
- wiring harnesses
- body bushings
- exhaust
- anything else?

After a move/new shop/many other projects/etc I'm trying to get back going on this restoration. Here's where I got to in 2007 before I got bogged down in work/travel. As mentioned in other thread, first off is replacing spring/shackle bushings that fell apart after sitting for so long. Then I'm not sure what's next.

A little less cluttered view after washing 16 years of dust off. Starting to dig through boxes/drawers/shelves of NOS parts plus all the used stuff accumulated over the years. How many damn air cleaners did I buy in search of the perfect one?
@Waorani my FJ45 air cleaner cover was dented in and while it likely had little impact on air flow, it bothered me a lot….I get that way. So I started emailing around the membership and eBay. I found 5 different air cleaners and I could make them all fit eventually But decided to fix the one it came with and it came out great but it was a lot of work. I would have gladly bought a newer one but between shipping and asking price, it was getting pricey

This is so great! I thought my resto took a long time, but I beat you by at least 15 years. If my project was as ambitious as yours though I’d be about where you are, or maybe even less.

1929 Desoto. Like so many things, wish I still had it. Loved the wood spoke wheels. Into Model As now but I'd pick up another DeSoto if the opportunity presented itself. Similar to this one.

This is the one component about land cruisers I still remain un-aware of. I would love to buy a new wire harness to install on one of the trucks but all I see is the “universal“ harness at Man-A-Fre and coolerman who doesn’t do full harnesses any more( as I understand it). I would TRY to make my own but I don’t even find a source for the correct connectors and terminal ends
I have 2 1950’s fords and have restored dozens of 1920-1965 Harleys. You can get almost ANY YEAR harness at any of the vendors right down to the square nuts for some terminals and cloth covered wiring. When I search Land Cruiser….nothin’, despite so many other great parts that are available from the ground up
