1974 Pig Tailgate Questions

This piece of linkage on the drivers side down at the bottom of the tailgate appears to be broken. Should I weld it to the rod it looks to have broke off from? Not sure what purpose it serves?

I seem to be missing a linkage rod here... Any ideas?

The first question I can help, that is a torsion bar that helps raise the tailgate and slows the lowering, not sure the weld will hold as it is a twisting force.

You're missing that rod, clips and a spring. All is for the locking mech. so you can't open the tailgate without the window being down.
