Too far north. Too far east.
Awhile back there was discussion about this truck. A buddy of mine, Al, owns one and bought it with the intention of restoring it some day. He also had a FJ45 long wheel base that he ended up selling to the dealer he bought it from, and they are restoring it.

Well, I just heard from Al. He told me "My life and interests have changed over the years, and I need to admit to myself that I will never do much with it." He has offered me the Patrol gratis. I would just need to go to California to pick it up. Anybody interested? As much as I would enjoy having that vehicle and another project ... I really don't have the space. And, I really don't want another project.

Man, that's tempting. I'm in the same boat - the garage space allotted is already taken, and I don't have the time, money, or energy for another project. But somebody ought to jump on this. Even though it's not a Toyota, those Patrols are pretty cool. I'm not sure I've ever seen one up close, but it strikes me as a Nissan-built FJ-40. What can you tell us about it? 4 or 6 cylinder? Manual 4-speed tranny? 2-speed transfer case?

If nothing else, there's got to be a Nissan Patrol forum where somebody would be willing to pay some bucks for it.

a cruiser guy in Az that specialized in cruisers had several of those patrols. someone definetly needs to get that. it is worth something even not fixed up. kind of like a FJ45 pu or wagon. I have too much on my plate too.

I'm up for storing it at my place, until somebody has time for it. I prolly couldn't afford the haulage costs, but lemme check.

Neighbors already think I'm a used car lot, no reason to disabuse them of the notion. :hillbilly:

Perhaps HDC could build it up and donate it, like Rising Sun did w/the 62?

oh man, right project, wrong time for me... the 80 still has too far (read money) to go...

but i could see a custom triangulated 4 link suspension, coilover (or 4 corner airbags), BA rockcrawler running on diesel, brings a tear to my eye...

I think you have the sickness. At least you're still on control of your sanity, somewhat.

sickness and sanity are fine lines we all walk ;).

i'm afraid to even mention the possibility to executive management, our couch isnt' my first choice for sleep. but i guess if i got the 80 set up it might be better :D:lol:

There was a guy in Corrales that had a Patrol who I would chat with every once in a while at the gas station or whereever. He said all the parts were made of unobtanium and worried if something big ever broke. Still, a Patrol chassis on top of some modern drivetrain platform would be way kewl.

yep, pretty much not many things you can still buy for them. would be like having an fj25, but worse. If this one is complete and original it might be worth something because of the parts it contains. They don't seem to have a lot of value, though, probably because it is so hard to get parts. Mike Keenan has/had a rhd patrol at his lot on Central if you want to look at one. They are cool, but I'd definitely build as Greg suggested, with a modern drivetrain so you could get parts.

I was thinking a 1973 Vega chassis with a SBC, Turbo 400 mated to an NP203 and delivered to Dana 60s. Those of you who have been around Corrales for some time will get the joke...

Vega

Cruiser Greg,

I just saw a monster of a Vega, 4 Door Wagon lifted high w/some big tires, on 4th Street today....It was green in color and quite the sight.

That's the one! I remember looking at it up close time and it looked like a p/u frame mated to the Vega by way of something like a by somehting like a 5" body lift.

It lives in Corrales. Saw it parked in the yard the other day. Darn, which street was I on??? I cannot recall if this is the one with Gremlin painted on the side.
