1969 FJ55 Tailgate Emblem

If a guy wanted to repaint the ones he already had what kind of paint would work best? Any secrets other than being sober with a steady hand while painting?

Surface prep will help, a clean surface is always good!

Use a quality paint, maybe a model paint?

X2 on the model paint. i can remeber reading somewhere on here about a guy using that tiny enamel pots that you get for models.

I think that's what I did with my Jeepster emblems. Since the letters and stuff are raised, you can sort of float the paint in there and you don't even have to all that careful!

Can anyone tell me what model years the "4" emblem applies to on the FJ55? Mine doesn't have one, but I'm not sure if this is because it's missing or because it wasn't produced my model year.

I think it was on all of them, I know up to when they changed the rear lights anyway.

My 79 has it. In fact, in the same way as in carmontana's pic - up the top in the white section of the tailgate, with a small toyota badge next to it.

Would be great to get some pics of an authentically restored 1971, showing the tailgate. Anyone have a nice one to post up? Would like to see how all of this stuff is laid out. Would like to properly lay them out on mine.

78 and 79 were near the top of the tailgate, where it was down low on most early models (some non us were up top)
