New member here in the process of purchasing an 80 series. coming back to Land Cruisers after owning a couple of FJ55's in the past. In looking at the FAQ, I noticed that it showed US production of FJ 55's beginning in 1969. I'd seen that year before. I started this thread simply to point out that in the mid-1980's I bought a 1968 FJ 55 from it's original owner in Colorado. So FJ 55's were available in the USA in 1968. The title clearly stated 1968 and the owner said he purchased it as a 1968. So contrary to the standard myth 1969 was not the first year of availability in the US.
It had three on the tree and transfer case was engaged with a lever coming thru the dash, unlike my 71 FJ55 which had a floor controlled transfer case. Sold that 68 to a guy from Boulder who bought it for his son in about 1991 or 92.
