Need wiring help 66 FJ40 and I have different wiper motors. The existing wiring is old a no good anymore so I need to rewire and replace switch if bad. I found on here diagrams for 58-70 showing diagrams with 2 screws..., but I have 3. (I am assuming one is for park???) Does anybody know/have a diagram for three screws? Getting cold and wet up here in Idaho and I need wipers!

Wow What a gem of a book to have in your possession. That is exactly what I have been looking for. If I may ask, where did you find it?

i found it in the Garbage can at work one day , after weekend inventory by new

parts manager ..........

Jerry's TOYOTA , Bel air Maryland , approx circa 1997-1998 summer internship

T-TEN program , parts dept elective class credit ............

i put it my book bag and never looked back

it was NOS at the time , but that was many Beers ago ..... :D

i cant recall ever seeing another one anywhere ever either , so yes

she's my girl and stays Locked in My Gun Safe .........

its still in remarkably good condition , i custom made the archival jackets

sleeves , it looks a bit clumsy , but does the Job well !

:smokin:

since we are on the Topic , have you ever seen this publication before ?

i believe its the first edition of the F engine / Siamese F

i have never seen a older one ?

this was also a Dealership Score , from a top shelf cabinet in the service dept. tool

room , that both Age and Time had some how Forgot ...........

i would eat my brown bag student style lunch in the tool room because ALL

the Red Neck mechanics would Blaze up there Marlboro Reds Hard packs with zippo

Ching lighters as soon as there daily cheese steak was inhaled ........

i did not smoke Cigs , it made me want to puke !

i quickly learned to poke around old cabinets and such at my dealerships .,

because i would find Long Lost artifacts like this as my Prizes .......

this is a scanned copy , i altered for my online parts store , the original is in with my

other prizes under lock and key

there is alot of waist at car dealer ships in general , but my experience with

a few toyota dealers , was like at end of year and inventory entire 3.0 and 3.4

short blocks in the dumpster litterlly

also , any NOS audio equipment , in dash 6 disc changers etc ......

keep in mind this was just before EBAY surfaced , so only fools like me came back at night and dove in a greasy dumpster full of sharp metal ,

with my 6 D cell Mag Light in one hand ......

once ebay came on hard

suddenly nothing ever was tossed , because it was not there to toss anymore .

at tossing time !

thats a very phunny thing to see happen at age 27ish ........
🤣

Boy you have found some beauties! Mind blowing, but I guess it doesn't meet the bottom line number so out with the old and in with the new (facepalm). I SURE COULD USE ONE OF THE 3.0 crate dumpster motors right now for my 88 4Runner!

So do the dealers now sell these things on ebay ?

So do the dealers now sell these things on ebay ?

no , not that im aware , TOYOTA MOTOR sales USA mandates the NOS inventory be destroyed now , prior to dumpster because of ebay

the warranty Air Bag TOKAIRIKA Co. LTD japan problems over the years , were

now being found offered up on EBAY as used parts

the body shop or private lable garage was installing a Bad unsafe already

warrantied and supposedly trashed air bags back at dealers a second time

around , see all major auto parts especially have like a Serial # or VIN mini #

on them , when TOYOTA found this out in early 2000's heads rolled

out in California headquarters , so TOYOTA wised up a bit and did this next

procedure :

the parts manager

the service manager

and general new car sales manager all once a month would meet at lunch for a

hour , usually last day of month , and bring out the " dealership FOOTBALL "

it got nicknamed , it was a small metal box with a handle , u open it and a 100

foot cord was inside , it ran to the warrantied air bags in the corner parking lot

the parts manager would then press a red button in box and Detonate or

deploy manually the bag .

it was loud

this is still the policy in effect to this day , except TOYOTA sent the dealers

like a big blue trash can to deploy manually the air bags inside like a blast

chamber

well 3 managers are not gonna be selling air bags on ebay

and there are No more bad toyota air bags being sold on ebay ............

and dealers will get fined big time if warranty parts find there way on ebay

so the practice of employees steeling trash out dumpster and ebaying it

is all but gone away ....

times have changed .............

Chewy,

Your hand-drawn diagram is incorrect. Follow the factory diagram Matt illustrated here.

A word to the wise: add an inline fuse to your hot (+) input to avoid burning out your components.
Wiring these up tomorrow so I'll report how it goes.

This is the correct way to wire the early three terminal wiper motors:
Image1W.webp

Inside the actual wiper motor harness the WB wire runs from the ring terminal to about mid way in the harness then splits into two WB wires to each motor. Same for the LB wire.

To my understanding, I believe part of the confusion with the early TNK motors comes from calling the S terminal on the motor: the PARK terminal.

Only when the switch is ON, does the S terminal on the motor provide switched power to RUN the motor. When the wiper switch is OFF, it is the + terminal that provides the necessary power to continue the motor operation until the wiper arm has returned to its park position. To do this, the + terminal on the motor is temporarily connected to the S terminal by a flexing copper strip, but this connection is interrupted once the wiper arm reaches the PARK position.

Yes the + stands for HOT or positive, but in this dual purpose case, it is used to not only provide power to the wiper switch, but also when the switch is OFF, to provide power to return the wiper arm to its resting position.

So.........I prefer to call the + terminal on the motor: the PARK terminal, and the S terminal both at the wiper switch and at the motor: the RUN terminal.

This helps me, and might help someone else trying to grapple with these early motors. YRMV

Wow, so sad to see NOS parts going to the trash. I suppose Toyota probably does not want to bother with the time to determine air bags vs. old FJ40 parts ?
