Glad there's someone that's doing a resto on a FJ45LV that's ahead of me! I'll be sure to pick you brain over the coming months! I'm nearly finished gutting the body but I'll be putting everything on hold over the summer as I travel back stateside. The body will come off in August so the shop class and I can go to town on the frame, axles, engine etc. Hope to have that done by the end of the year. Then we'll work on the body in the spring.

Got home this afternoon and got the axles, fuel tank and brake calipers in the booth. Prepped with DX330, 2 coats of DP90Lf and 2 coats of MTK single stage. Pics should show the results.

I have a couple small parts I'm going to throw in the blast cabinet tonight, but should be a go for powdercoating tomorrow evening. :)

Curious as to how much 3 hours of this guy ran you... getting ready to do the same. Did you sand blast it or use other media! Great Picks!

$100 bucks and hour x 3 = $300. Yes, it was Sandblasted.

I have some fairly heavy duty equipment myself for blasint, but it is more cost effective to have someone else do it. I would have spent more in sand and time than him.

When we did the FJ45 pickup, the frame was near mint with almost no pitting.

I see you have a fair bit of pitting the frame that will show up after powdercoating. Also I have heard thier are fillers you can used like body filler that stand up to the head??

Looks great.

Rob

Actually what I think your looking at is some areas that he missed, I think I could see how you would think that? I would say there is little to no pitting on the frame at all.

When I got home this afternoon I went through a couple bags of sand with my own equipment on the frame hitting a few small areas he missed. I'm actually amazed how smooth and how well the frame cleaned up :)

I know what your saying though. On my 77 FJ40 that I restored there was significant pitting on the frame. I didn't powdercoat that frame, it was painted, but if you look for it you can see it.

I think this frame is going to come out of the oven looking awesome. I will have pics tomorrow. :)

One more pic of the night, fresh out of the blast cabinet ready for powdercoating tomorrow. :)

At the powdercoat place right now using there computer. Figured I better post some pics while we were waiting for everything to cool down.

Everything turned out really nice :) Black covered all the parts very well.

We sprayed the rims with a color that on the chart resembled electrical panel grey. Although when sprayed and baked on they seem a little light  I don't know, pic of one of the rims. See what you think and make a comment.

I am going to go sit in my rusty 45 and cry for awhile. If no one is looking I'll have to make vroom vroom noises to make it all better. You make it look easy :)

Keep posting the great progress pictures.

A few more being loaded for the trip home :)

Someone once wrote (I think it was LandPimp) that the 1960s FJ45 LPB rims were black out of the factory. True or not? Was it also true for 45 LVs?

Anyway, on one hand, I agree that they look a little light for the "correct" factory grey. But on the other hand, as I compare, maybe not. But then on the other hand, there are 5 shades of grey inside my 45LPB, and the rims that came with it were yet another shade (I think they were original).

That said, I think I'm gonna cry, too.

Nice job!

Slacker! :D I know you've got more elbow room, now the 40 is gone. Sounds like we might need an intervention. Maybe when I come back from Tin Benders

End of hijack. Now educate me. I recognize everything in the small parts pic, including the shock washers and brake line junctions. What I do not recognize is the two studs that are threaded at both ends. Are they part of the gas tank straps or something like that?

AKAIK, early to around 67 the wheels were black on all 40-45's. 25;s and early(prolly just non US 61-63) 45LV were body color.

I beleive they hold the gas tank skid plate deal?

Few pics from this morning. I have to work late tonight so I figured I would get everything unloaded and the axles and frame ready to go.

I think my little 6" PVC covers I made for sandblasting worked out well, spindles clean and no scratches. I am going to put an axle rebuild kit in since I have it down this far, that might show up today? Since 90% of it is already taken apart I imagine it would be a good solid evening job.

I've got a few things on the Honey do list I have to take care of in the next few days, and I have to work the next 2 weekends, so I might not be hammering through it quite as fast as I have been.

It doesn't matter that much anyway.......

I need springs!!!!!!!!

There probably still over the altlantic somewhere :)

If I had springs I would have some pics of the rolling chassis with the motor in this weekend ready for a tub........but, that's all theory.

Can't happen without them
