I'm not Hi-tech on my camera, I'm more of a low tech kinda guy. Must be why I drive 30 year old vehicles :D

The one I've got now is a Sony Mavica FD-100. I've had it for several years and it's taken 1000's of pics. The week link I think that it's basicly a portable hard drive, it writes the pics to a 3.5" floppy right in the camea, more moving parts to go wrong. I guess that's why I liked it, no cables or software. Just take a pic and shove the disc in the drive and go on any computer, not just eh one you have your software loaded onto. Seems to take good pics for the price and was fairly idiot proof, perfect for a guy like me :D .

I think I'm going to get another one just like it. Surfing the net, looks like I can buy a new one in the $150 to $200 range. Currently working the ebay thing. See if I can pick up a good used one or re-furb unit for $50 to $100. I've got one at work I can use until then, but need to pic up my own again, soon.

Just wanted to say your doing an awesome job still . Finally getting ready to get started on my 45 lwb. Will not be close to this though, you are the man on this. Ya need to open up a school about this and teach people like me how to do this type of stuff. Again awesome job.

Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated and needed to keep the drive going.......LONG way to go.......

As far as school, trying the online course here on this thread right now :D

Hopefully Lito has contacted Toyota, TLC or the Discovery channel. That will be the next step in the re-build course ;)

Matt... not a bad choice on yer camera.. I purchased a floppy driven one as well in 2k and it has produced over 20,000 pictures... the Mavica FD-88. I had to replace the battery once, but had the 4 year warranty so it was covered. I hope to make it last another 10 years... takes great pictures for what I use it for. If you get a new camera.. send me yours. I'll take it apart and fix it :)

cheers
Mikesta

On another note... you are a great source of encouragments for landcruiser owners here. This thread has empowered and continues to empower every type of FJ and BJ owner with confidence to possibly tackle that Project they've been delaying for years. I dont know about the discovery channel... but I'd say taking a month off work and touring a few states and trails with the LV would be doable... I wouldnt be able to join for a couple years when gas may be $4 a gallon... but can start bugeting now :)

Cant wait to see that body on the frame again!

You gotta be jonsin to splash some paint on that thing????

PPG Omni after all that work LOL...

I have been rock guarding the bottom of my restorations for sound proofing and a protective coating, then painting it the body colour.

Oh I want to paint it, but I don't think that will happen for another several months. Just so much body work left to do and it is coming back off the chassis for paint.

I actually use the PPG omni base color, but spray the good stuff over the top - PPG's DCU 2021 clear. Color is color as far as I'm concerned when your base/clearing it's the clear that makes a difference, at least that's my experience.

When it comes time to paint and the body is off, again, I am going to seam seal the shiat out of it, then shoot a single stage urethane on the bottom and then use a product I used on my 40 called SEM. Stuff is a tintable 2 part bedliner that you add toner to, get the exact color of the vehicle and spray it on with a Shutz gun. Held up extremely well on my 40 so far and I like the durability and the fact that you get the body color underneath and inside the wheel wells.

Going to get driven in the Minnesota road salt so going to try to protect it as much as possible :)

Not a whole lot accomplished on the LV this weekend, but a little. I had to work all weekend and my time Saturday evening was spent blading my driveway and getting a little more cleaned up around the house after that concrete. I did manage to get out there for a couple hours last night though.

Didn't get a ton of pics. I actually spent most of my time grinding down some welds on the inside, getting that all cleaned up and primed. The one pic that doesn't look like anything was where the 3 holes for the dimmer switch in the floor was. Welded up, ground down and primed. Not needed since the dimmer will be in the column now.

Also got my door catches that I ordered at the beginning of the week. I'm posting a couple pics of them even though I'm a few weeks away from starting an install. I just thought I would plant a seed in some engineers heads out there right now. I've got a couple ideas how to make it work, but sometimes other people have better ideas ;)

From what I can see the factory door lever on the LV has a pin right behind the button that pushes straight in. Need to figure out a way to pull up on that arm on the new Bear claw latches?? Some sort of Bell crank?

Anway, figured I would post a few pics. Still hoping to get that body on in the next day or so?

when do you think you will put the body on the frame?

Possibly tonight, have to see what happens. Sometimes I plan things and they don't quite work out as I think ;) .

I want to stress....the body is coming back off AGAIN at some point. Probably will be several months from now after everything is fitted: Steering columns, AC kits, all switches, extra holes welded up, doors latching and closing, tailgates latching and closing, all linkages through the fire wall, tranny hump fabbed with all linkages done and fit, all body work done and sanded out ready for wet sanding and paint...........etc................

Needless to say, still a ton of work left. When all this is done, total body disassembly (AGAIN), pull the body off and paint the underside and inside into the jams. Then the body goes back on AGAIN, (hopefully for the last time) then re-install everything that was fitted before + all glass. Back tape everything, wetsand and then spray the entire exterior of the vehicle. Then finish re-installing exterior hardware.

This is kinda the short version of what has to happen. I guess I just don't want anyone to break out the champaigne just yet if the body goes back on tonight. :D Don't get me wrong, still a huge step. Fun seeing the body back on and rust free, fairly straight and without the doors falling off :)

unbeliveable

just read start to finish your fab skills are ------------[cant desribe how good]----- cant wait to see it complete makes me wish i would get off my ass and at least do some work on mine

Well..............Got out in the shop tonight :)

Went pretty good, took almost 3 hours for 2 guys to wrestle it back on, but for the most part it was a success.

There was a few moments of pushing and pulling with punches and pry bars to get body mounts lined up again, but all are in again.

There are some serious fitment issues with the front clip though. I'm not even sure really where to start  I may have to have my body man buddy take a look and tell me what to do. The entire front clip in the front needs to move foward about 3/4" and to the passenger side about 3/4" Again, not even sure how that's going to happen?? Get my friend to take a look at it, see what he thinks.

Few pics of tonights fun.............next....remove the roof..........oh for fun!!
