Thanks! I test fitted the wheel without the shims, there was clearance but not as much. Like you say, more room for the wheel weights. Guess I didn't know they have the Chevy bolt pattern.

How is John Boy's cruiser doing?
My wife decided our kitchen was deserving at least the same attention as the Toyota, which really means a lot more attention, so it's out in the barn out of the weather for now.
But I did get some things done this summer before the hammer came down.

Figured out the wiring left me, they ran 7 wire trailer wiring to the back and both sides of the engine compartment. traced it down and hooked up the tail and headlights.

reverse light is on a toggle, but the tag light had to be replaced, and grounded!

Hooked up Signal Stat turn signals and the the old floor dimmer switch cleaned up and works now that it's wired.

Wired the windshield wiper motor up with a new switch and they are working. Got the horn button working and some old horns installed, seat belts cobbled in nicely (nice to have old racing stuff around), ...i think thats it. For now. All my research came from this site!
So it's running, legal, and until I get the doors on and the heater working, it's probably staying close to home until spring.
Thanks to everyone on this sight, your experiences and advise has been priceless.

I've owned my 40 for 38 years. To this day I still find things about my 40 that surprise me. I've never had back up light..Yesterday Sggoat Gary and I were discussing my non functioning newly installed reverse light. After much research I remembered I have the AA 3 on floor adapter, no wires there then found out it's on the steering column for 3 on tree but I guess I took the switch off when the 350 went in back in '86. Darn Ill buy a new on and do the toggle thing I suppose. Then there is the lack of defroster hoses and jimmy rigged heater duct.....A tale for another time.

Does your AA adapter have a hole for a reverse switch? Not sure what brand my 3 speed floor shift conversion is, but it has a switch. Coolerman built me an 18" extention to reach it.
