Other end of new steering arm.

Saganaw steering box from 71 1110. Had to drill the frame for power steering angle bracket and used the stock plate on the back side of the frame(it's for strength). Machined the tapered hole bigger for the ball(ball and socket type drag link). The spring hanger kept coming loose on the frame, because of the push pull steering. The added gusset took care of that. Had to sledgehammer the body to clear the front of steering box. Also since the original was a one peice steering column all the way to the gear box,I used a two peice column from a Scout 800A and modified the shaft to use racing type u joints instead of rag joint and the other funky joint. The notch in the steering bracket was cut to clear the nut on the back of the pitman arm.

New tie rod, moved to front. With the diff angled up toward the transfer case, the tie rod could no longer be in the back(stock location). And I ditched the funky bent tie rod for a straight one with heims joints. It's 22" off the ground and clears the rocks pretty good there.

Front diff rotated up 16 degrees.

Rear end(RA 15). I had Eaton Detroit Springs make 3" lift springs because they made the OEM springs for IH and knew the specs. 3" is as high as they would go,that's why I got the other 3" from longer shackles and a lower pin hole in the spring hanger. Used the factory blocks, just spun them around to point diff up toward transfer.

Rear end(RA 15). Got a 1350 yoke from a 73,the stock one was 1310.

Cool! I ran it by our unofficial leader and you're welcome to join us.

What do you find interesting about the steering?

The home made steering arm, need to work around not having high steer option for a link set-up.

That's cool ... Love the fact you have the skill to fab the stuff yourself... Ed I have to know you I helped build a few of those pit toilets , and have helped up at high Sierra for a number of years ... Where you up at sand flats last year when we dug new hole and moved that toilet and opened the trail ?

Thanks for the props,I like building things.

I wasn't on the project to move the toilet at Sand Flats. I helped move one of the toilets at Coyote a few years ago. Last year I went on the first Spanish opening(there were 3,due to snow),went on the Swamp opening, went on the Dusy-Ershim opening, was at the BFG plaque presentation at White Bark Vista, helped install the toilet at Thompson in Oct 08,helped install the toilets at Brewer,Spanish and Swamp in 07.

What club are you in?

Lol so we run in the same circles ...

I was a member or 4x4 him , now just and assosicate , I'm now a member of central valley crawlers, we started running a trail in Hume lake district , but have worked with Anthony up at high Sierra for years

I'm the one that nominated Dusy for the BFG Outstanding trail last year and we won $4,000 to spend on the trail. We are going to use it to purchase materials to build toilets with and will start soon.

Well I'm almost done with my 40 so I want to run the full dusy this year....

Glad to hear you were the one that nominated it I love it up there.

Let me know when you guys start building I'd be more than happy , may even have a few members that would help out also , my numbers 836-8971 give me a ring...

I hang out with danimal( Dan hull) and know Fred whorf and those guys pretty well
