Hey gusb,

Where are you located in Redwood City?
Why don't you head to the Coastal Get Together on Saturday at Pescadero! Good place to meet all the local cruiser heads there!

Heres a link-http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=707972

[hijack over] Sorry Mike ;)

Some Progress...

I've got a few pictures to share. Had some time a couple weeks ago to work on the front bumper, lincense plate holder, and front frame bracing and boxing.

Yeah - that'll knock over some trees ;)

Great quality welding there - nice fab. Are you gonna counterbalance the rear so she rides level?:D:D

I'll be making a rear bumper as well so that should even things out. :D

Actually, IMO, the bumper is not too heavy. Its 3/16" wall 2x5 tube and about 42" long. Don't know what it weighs exactly, but calculated to be about 30 lbs.

The crossmember behind the bumper is also not too heavy, its also 3/16" thick and calculated weigh is 14lbs.

You must be ashamed by your workmanship!

J/K Mike! Looks AWESOME!

Just buggin ya:D My bumper is 1/4" wall 3x5 tube 24" long with 3/16" "wings". Plus the 2" .120 wall tube and 3/16" mounting brackets - mine bolts on with 10 1/2" grade 8 bolts :hillbilly:.

And yeah - I'm doin' a rear bumper, sliders and interior roll cage too. Prolly add 350# to the truck:grinpimp:

Hey Awl_TEQ,
Nice work! An integrated winch mount and fairlead too! Very nice. I like the outer bends in the bumper and thought about doing something similar to that as well but I got lazy and decided mine looked good enough as a straight bumper and I really needed to spend time on other things like an engine and transmission. ;)

I'm at the point in my project where I have way too much to do and very little time to get it done. Someday, I'd like to be able to drive mine before the government outlaws all gasoline and diesel engines.

Thanks Ken! I guess I was showing off a bit. :o

Have you had a chance to use any of those old rusty patch panels? ;)

Is'nt that the truth!
Maybe we should start looking for wrecked hybrids so we could convert our 45's to electric!
But then again, you probably have to be an electrical engineer to get it to actually run!

As far as those old rusty patch panels- their just gettin rustyer:)

It actually crossed my mind when diesel went over $5 a gallon. :p But building a hybrid is definitely way, way beyond my skillz :hillbilly:. For now, I'm sticking to gas power...when I have this 45 ready for its maiden voyage, I'm cashing in my 401k to buy a tank of gas. OK, well maybe it won't buy a full tank but I'm hoping it will get me down the road a ways anyway.

Ah, good, now I feel better. ;)

Had some time to work on the 45. Blasted the rear part of the frame so I had some clean metal to work with. Was able to fab up some custom frame boxing pieces and relocated the shock tube/frame crossmember forward to match the rear axle relocation. Also made up a new rear crossmember. I'm also adding more boxing to the very rear secitons of the frame rails and also adding triangulation to the rear corners. I'll take a few more pics and post them up a bit later.

Here's the rear corner triangulation and support for the rear 16" of the frame. Some of the the welds are now completed.

I just realized this thread is now 2 years old. I knew it would be a long project but this is turning out to be a lot longer than expected. :frown:
