I really like the Nitto Trail Grapplers as well; they don't make them in a 315/75/16... If i'd gone with 18's that is probably what I would've ended up with... They are some sharp looking tires...

I sold the OEM amber corners a couple years ago. I wanted all clears up front and have a amber bulb in the corners now. That was actually when I tried replacing all my exterior lights with LED bulbs and couldn't find anything bright enough... I couldn't find a suitable amber LED either and returned everything I had picked up locally...

I like the look. Where did you get them? I did see some JDM ones on Ebay but they are 260 plus shipping from Japan. Don't like them that much....

Mine were $40 depo corner lights from ebay:D

Will have to look and see if I can find some. That seems more in line with what I would be looking for. How long have you had them and how have they held up?

Tire thoughts...

I run 295/75-16 A/Ts and can't imagine driving anything bigger (wider or taller) on the street. The handling, braking and acceleration get killed with these big, heavy tires. If you are a hardcore off-road guy then 34"+ tires will come in handy but otherwise it just doesn't make sense to go that big.

I wish someone made a good 275/75-18 A/T. IMO, this would be the ultimate do it all 100 Series size.

Please post pics of 275/70-18 tires :) This might be the next size I try; same O.D. as my 295/75-16s but with less sidewall height for better on-road manners.

Did you want 315's? Or 285's? The 285 Look on 18's is awesome! Sonk76's truck!

285's

I will say that they are heavy. I keep them at 44 psig and they roll pretty well. I haven't noticed any difference in handling or braking, but then again I do drive pretty conservatively. Acceleration is a bit slower off the line. Probably like taking off in 2nd on the 5 spd with OEM rubber. Once you get going, it's no problem.

Update (and a little off topic)...Is this what the wheels should look like after a coat of airplane paint stripper? They look tons worse in person. The parts that are down to bare metal are very rough (almost pitted). I'm getting scared...

Why did you use stripper on them? Are you planning on painting them? I had the same wheels on my previous 100 painted black. Roughed them up a bit, used a good coat of primer and then painted them. They held up very well.

Regarding the 18" vs 16" debate... I have the same option since I picked up some 18" Tundra alloys. I wonder if the difference in sidewall height results in any appreciable feel in sideways roll in the wind or turning, or other performance differences. I'm considering getting 33's for it and 33's" on 16's seems like a pretty tall sidewall. (btw - I spend very little time off the beaten path to the office, kids school, etc).

There's also the risk that a blowout would be worse in a higher-profile tire because the affected corner would drop that much more.

Paul - Get a small fine or med wire wheel for a drill and go over the wheels... Some fine sand paper and sanding blocks are handy as well but the wire wheels make the process much faster and really get a nice surface in place for priming and painting... Wash them real good and use alcohol or something with shop rags before priming... A couple coats of primer and a couple coats of your choice paint color and they will come out looking great... Good luck!

About a year now! I ran 2 sets!

first set: moisture got in, turned yellow, sealed it, stopped yellowing(2 months on the truck)

second set: sealed it, no moisture came in, still clear to this day:D Over a year of use now!
