16” tires

I have a new set of Aussie 16” factory spoke style rims that I had powder coated white to look like the originals that came on the latter year 40’s. FJ and Company recommends a 255/75/16 tire for their 16” rims, but BFG only produces that size in the KM3. I want the traditional look of the AT KO2, which of course is now the KO3. I see that 265/75/16 is available but I’m concerned they will be too heavy and will slow an already slow rig down vs a more traditional tall skinny. What have others used and or recommend. Wheels before Powdercoating and last one shows the general color I went with. TIA

My go-to tire size for our FJ40 and Troopy is 235/85x16, still available from BFG, Firestone, Yokohama, and others. Low steering effort, good ground clearance if you aren't into King of the Hammers. Proper size for long expeditions.

Your tire height will depend on if u have a lift

The 235/85r16 is a taller (~31”) and skinnier tire then the 255/75r16 (~30”)

The 255/85r16 is a 33” tire and is same width as the 255/75

My 82 40 has a 2” OME lift, so nothing crazy. I don’t do any off roading. Pretty my a pavement princess at this point. I do have PS so turning effort isn’t a concern. I don’t want an MT, though I did order in some Yokohama MT in 255/75x16 bc that was the only thing I could find, but I’m not obligated to take them. I really prefer the look and ride of the KO3. So if I understand correctly, the only KO3 option is the 235/85x16 mentioned above by Jonathan? I just wish BFG offered the 255 for the 33” look.

Jonathan, Both of your rigs look good, so if they both have the 235/85x16 I like it.

I just did a quick comparison between the 235/85 and the 265/75. They are super close OD, the main difference is the tire width.

The weight would be dependent on the tire construction … just the 1” difference if your looking at those two options will not be noticeable on road imho

Many guys run 10.5” wide tires here

Wheels were cheap, from local Toyota dealer and got a discount. Been studying tires too long, but have decided to go with the BFG KO3 265/75r 16 based on FJ Company recommendation and aesthetics.
