14 bolt full float hubs on a cruiser axle housing ????????

Dennis. Put me down for a set of turned down button head allen bolts if you plan on doing a run. I could grind down the allens I picked up - but would be nice to have a clean set.

Here's the bolts for my 14 bolt from my spares box.

The cruiser flange also has two dowel pins that are as strong as the bolts. For a lot less PITA you can drill in an additional four dowel pins. 12 @ 6k each = 72k lbs.

Maybe not what you want if you're running 44s and a big block, but not bad.

We still come back to locating said FF and purchasing it. While this kit does cost more than a 60 series FF it will be considerably stronger out of the box. Not to mention the upgraded axle shafts.

Does the 14 bolt utilize a larger bearing?

I'm not sure it will be considerably stronger. Alloy axles will be an improvement, but those can be stock alloys as well. 14 bolt hubs are stupid strong. The cruiser pinion isn't.

IMHO, if you want strong, just run the entire 14 bolt :) They can be found super cheap to free.. And I think Axle Craft makes the sleeve kits to use two short side shafts. And obviously run his 6 lug hubs as well.

I just don't see a major reason to spend that amount of money on a toyota axle. It won't be that strong in 30 spline even with upgraded shafts. Kinda like the guys that upgraded the heck out of their D30 axles in Jeeps. It did nto take long before they replaced them with stronger units.

SOR says they have the 40 and 60 series FF axles in stock currently.

my lathe is to big to turn those bolts. sorry bill.

No doubt a 14 Bolt is the word on strength, but an improved Cruiser axle will fill the needs for some of us running tires that aren't big enough to run a 14 Bolt but big enough to keep breaking stock axles.

X2 .. but I need to wonder if we are not gonna break more axles coz they are supper strong now .. what we are going to break .?

Right! Why not overbuild and not expect to break? When I'm done with my $100 axle, I will have the ground clearance of a stock axle, but the load rating and gear strength of an 8,000lb load rating (if I kept 8-lug). I will still be able to run stock or aftermarket cruiser wheels but have better brakes. I can still get an ARB, someday. I can upgrade to whatever higher quality alloy shafts when my budget allows and still have less into it than a modified stock axle because it won't break.

I completely agree on the strength issue, there is no argument there. Considering you can pick up a 14 bolt around her for $100.00 the price isn't a question.

Some guys (such as myself) have a really hard time facing removing every single Toyota component (character flaw). Plus, 14 bolt ground clearance with 37's isn't uhh, optimal.

Then again, my 2F and gentle right foot have kept my drivetrain relatively damage free, plus the fact that I mostly wheel Moab, which is very gentle and easy for traction.

for the same $1100 You could build a complete 14 bolt with a locker, Gears, and a Shave Kit Giving you MORE ground clerence than a Land Cruiser Diff.

Ive run toyota parts for a while now, they just dont hold up like they need to while doing "Hard Core" Trails.

Id rather be :steer: Than :wrench:
 
I have less than that into the newly refurbished 14 bolt that I picked up with brand new 4.56 gears, Detroit and disk brakes - with Dennis and a few others pitching in to do the shave with the ballistic kit and narrow the long side....

.... and honestly, being able to drive stupid silly and not break is extremely fun....

....however, as I'd never had a problem with fine spline Land Cruiser pinions - having a trussed full float axle with pure beef axles at a lighter weight would have been an option I would have considered.

I gave up on Poly's after ruining three.
