There was a guy who did this, but literally imported the back 1/3 of a barn door 100. Then he chopped and welded it to his. I’ll try to dig up the post.

I found the post, but all pictures have been deleted for some reason. The truck was sold after he completed the work.
@Dilspec - can you post any pics from your barn door journey?

I sold the truck a year after the project was done. I didn’t chop the back half of my 100. The donor pillar was used for measurements & to achieve the cleanest transition.

At a high level tailgate hinges were removed, welded nuts inside and bolted the doors up. There was some welding/fab work for the drip rail & bottom strikers. Final step is adjusting the doors so they close properly using factory shims.

Here’s some pictures of the process.

This is a cool project for sure BUT someone educate me....Why would you want some swing out doors that serve no purpose compared to the original setup which provide you with a seat, table, and sun block shade lol

I generally prefer the tailgate but the barn doors do allow easy access to the trunk while have a swing out tire carrier. If pop top camper or rear bench seats, barn doors would be the way to go too.

A lot of folks with barn doors to complain of dust ingress though. They don't seal as well as the tailgate.

Sorry, I couldn’t recall 100% how you achieved it. I just knew that it had been done, and done very well might I add.

With jump seats in the back it makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, tailgate all day every day.

I have a buddy who wants this conversion, badly. I do crazy stuff like this and was foolish enough to say "maybe". This biggest unknown is sourcing the doors. @mcleaod you appear to be in Qatar and have access to these. How about getting one to the US? I don't need the frame, just the doors and latch/hinge parts. Using 3D scanning, I can do the rest without having to ship the back section of an entire vehicle.
