130 amp alternator??

I have been emailing with Cliff from Startech and after the holiday will send him my old OEM 80 amp unit from my 91.

However, if there is ANY hope of shoehorning in a Sequoia unit using Bill's prototype bracket and kit, then I will hold off. I'd rather give money back to the community and keep it all Toyota.
I hear ya, but with the amperage you get from a Startech rebuild, it's REALLY hard not to go with them!

When Smokinrodder said he came up with a solution I quit working on it. I could not see the point of spending the time and effort to R&D something and reinvent the wheel if his solution could help the community out.

From where I left off it seems it can be done and have a tried and true 150 amp alternator. The back of the 150 amp alternator comes close to the exhaust tin at one point. How that would work out heat wise in the long term is anyone's guess. At the time, I had laser aligned the pulley and was working to squeeze out every thousandth of clearance I could.

This is the second 3FE alternator thread.

Photoman...please reply.

Copy that Bill. Thanks for the update.
As far as a "bolt in" that's all fine, but reliability is an issue for me. I'll take a true OEM Toyota solution anytime. That's why the Sequoia option was so appealing.

I'll update when I get this unit back.

True Jon. It would be interesting to take one of the Ebay alternators to an independent alternator shop and have them spin it up and see what the actual output is. Hopefully, amps as claimed or better. Reliability may be another issue but at least we could put a check mark in the claimed amps box.

first thing I did when I recieved my modified alternator- was take it to a local reputable alternator rebuilder and had it tested- compared the numbers with the data test sheet sent with it- all numbers matched. been a couple years under the hood- no issues... In the back of my mind before I ever recieved it- was reliability - 90 amp alternators are hard to come by and what about local shop servicing??? a stock high output unit would be ideal in the long run- plenty of those on the shelf....

Now that's great to hear! I'm glad you took the time and made the effort to verify the manufacturers claim.
In the 1990's I bought a big 3 HP Taiwan drill press. When I got it home I started to clean it up. The 3 HP label fell off and under it was a 2 HP label. I didn't want to run out of power so I quit cleaning. :)
