I'm curious what people use the 12V lighter socket in the center console for? I thought maybe there are accessories in Japan that use it? There are already two in the dash in my 99. Anybody?

That is where my cb gets power now.
My 12VDC-120VAC inverter and an electric shaver ride in there. I always shave on the way to work. Frees up 10-15 minutes per day for something else at home besides shaving.
(And, it's good for odd looks from others on the road, and embarrassing my teenaged children...

Only thing is, no matter what you use, if you want something to work that draws a few amps, you need to run your own heavy power circuit in your vehicle where you want it so you don't get the huge voltage drop through existing Toyota wiring

Am I missing something? Where is 12V socket located in your 100s? As far as I know, I only have 2 in the front (I use both of them for navigation) and another one in the trunk (this one is used for a 220V). I could use another one for a DVD player for the kids (now I have to use 220V adapter for that...).

On my LX there is a 12v socket inside the center console/armrest, at the bottom. Then there are the two on the bottom center dash by the ashtray and one in the cargo area.
I've done some research: the previous owner took the 12V socket out and used the hole for the cables of the CD changer. I'll have to order a new one (and of course drill a new hole for the CD changer), as I could really use the fourth 12V socket.
Thanx for letting me know that there should be 4 12V sockets in a LC 100 - it seemed strange not having a 12V socket somewhere near the rear seats in such a big car, although.

I shave after shower & dry, so it works out good for me this way. No showering in 100.
10-15 minutes freed up for other things at home is very valuable to me. It justifies the things including the odd looks and having to brush the little hairs off my collar when done.
Think about this: If you drive like a maniac, you won't save more than a minute or two at most, due to red lights etc...in fact, usually you won't save any time at all. Yet many people drive like maniacs, trying to get to their destination faster: Lots of waste, lots of increased risk to everyone, for no gain whatsover.
On the other hand, shaving while driving to work in the morning is a sure way to save 10-15 minutes for something else while not driving. Why not?
(I know, I know - its drifting off-topic...)
I live so close to my office ,I would be just started shaving by the time I got to the office.......

I thought the weird shape of the CC meant that there probably was a fridge unit that would drop in there, I've just never seen them...figured they were Japan only.

Is that a factory "coolbox"? How can you get one?
Yes, that is a factory coolbox however the one pictured is for the wider center consoles w/o the armrests. I believe they also made them for the narrower center consoles as well. Contact MOT on the board if you want one. But keep in mind, the cost might be the same or not much more for a real fridge/freezer (i.e. Engel, ARB, Waeco).

Went out to check. No socket. Even checked the Owners Manual: No mention of the darn thing.
Suppose that would be the same for all European models, at least the 2001. Or ??
