Spec on idle for mine is 779rpm. I also have that issue where it only idles at about 500rpm after starting, so I usually have the hand throttle out a little bit to keep it up.

I have my idle set at 750, and at cold start up the water temp vac switch rises the idle to 850-900 when cold

I've been struggling with rev's dropping close to stalling as well.
I've screwed in the idle damper, bu this makes idle control much more nervous.
Is there any solution for this rev dropping when getting off the throttle? I've heard that if you can't fix it by increasing the idle damper spring setting, it's probably wear in all the internal linkage arms inside the injector pump.
I would love to find a solution on this.... For now I just increased the idle a little, but that aint a proper fix!

@Jentuh, yep- i believe it is internal, and am preparing myself for a $1600AUD rebuild on the inj pump. It stalled twice on me today, yet my partner doesn't have a problem with it.... I was hoping that the dampener would fix it, but as soon as the clutch is depressed the revs still drop a lot faster than the dampener is operating externally..... I had the internal dampener adjusted to its maximum, and increased the idle to 800 rpm, but it is getting progressively worse... I suppose at 500000k's that it can't keep going as new forever....

@Jentuh and @ozcrusier, while I have a crack at doing most things myself on the 61, I leave the inj pump to Bunbury Fuel Injection And Turbochargers. I don't know how the idle was set, but remember him saying something about the different adjustments on the inj pump that he has played with trying to get it to stop stalling, and (from memory) it is wear on the rack inside the pump??

Idle has to be set with the engine running, it can't be properly set on a test bench.
FYI, there's 2 screws for idle adjust!

When you look at the pump where the throttle cable goes to the pulley you can see a 10mm nut with a screw type shaft that's to adjust the high speed idle for air con, cold starts etc don't touch this screw. On the other end of the same bracket on the engine side there is a second screw with another 10mm bolt it's the one for the idle. After my rebuild the idle jumped from 650 to 1000 rpm so I backed this screw anti clock wise bringing the idle down to 700 rpm. Like the photo above but in the photo the first screw is very rusty and hard to see.

Not wanting to highjack this thread, but I have a question about the cold-start vacuum switch mounted on the oil-cooler as seen on HoJo61's picture. this is the switch on the left of the top red arrow.
Does anyone know where to source these? I spent quit some time finding it, no luck so far... Mine is broken, and I now switch the idle-up with the pre-start heating relays.

Normally that helps out! I live about 5 minutes away from Cruiser World, their good friends of mine!
We still haven't been able to find a replacement. Most of the parts rigs that come in there haven't got a working one :(

Oh boy! Living that close to a Cruiser heaven.. :hmm::)
We have a lot HJ61's here in Fin, i assume you can find good working spare part from here easily. If you don't mind buying from overseas of course.
Here is a link to our most popular off-road forums.

If your willing to wait a few weeks from Australia google 'Early Landcruiser Spares' that's where i got all the bits for when i had my HJ47 and will need to head there in a few weeks to grab a couple of parts for the HJ60... That of course assumes that the part is the same from LHD to RHD (which one would think).

Can't be of much help with the idle adjustment, my 12HT's been running like clockwork since i bought it ~9 months ago. I haven't driven a manual 12HT to compare it too but i don't seem to have any issues with the touchy throttle, guessing more of a manual thing with no torque converter to soak up the throttle stabs.

Hi guys, I'm new on the forums. I've posted a video on another thread.
Changed my fuel filter 12month old, 10k travelled. Much better whith new filter. To celebrate, video of 60-100kmh run in 4th gear

Hope you enjoy, when I was considering modifying my 12H I was looking for a video like this. The blue socks I. The video belongs to my son...
Cheers

@Rocher , I missed your post.. Thnx for the advise. I might call them and check if they have one laying around.
I'm still wondering where I could find a new replacement though. Been looking on older Mercedes W123, as I've been told they use a similar vacuum switch. I sourced one from Toyota, but that worked inverted (idle up with warm motor :bang:)
