O2 sensor seems to have been the ticket :). Only had time left to replace a few burnt bulbs but any progress is good progress. Got the paperwork done with the state today and a plate mounted so I think I'll drive it to work tomorrow just for fun. I gotta do something about that smell though ;(

Daryl I've had good luck with carpet using amoina & pine sol.
Hose down with this and then power wash out, usually only 1/4 amoina to pine sol but will clean any stain and smell like forest.

Thanks for the tip, Clutchee. I'll give that a try. Figured I'd have to pull the carpet and at least pressure wash it but hadn't thought much about what process to use.

I think Rick jinxed me with the CEL... No code yesterday so I decided to drive it in to work today. It threw a p0420 code on the way in which is weak catalyst left bank. I reset it and it hasn't come back on yet but that's the first time it's thrown that code since buying it :(. May wait till I put a set of new plugs in it before doing anything drastic. I'm betting these are the originals with 200k on them.

I've been there with my 1GR-FE, give it another 20-40 miles and it will come back. Wound up installing new exhaust manifold on each side to fix, since primaries are not modular to the manifolds. Sorry @Bossman.

This 3M headlight restorer is the business. Only got one done this evening before the mosquitos tried to carry me off. Did finally get all the lights burning and a fresh set of Iridium NGK's in as well. Slow but sure.

I've used those kits a few times and they are legit. Only one I use and recommend.

Looking good

Progress today. Rear driver side caliper frozen. Diff unknown, but seems OK? tcase leaking from front output, extracted. Rear main leaking, so tranny coming out Monday.

Steady progress, looking good. What are the odds the locked up caliper is your main issue and not diff?

Daryl, at the price I recall you getting that one, even after all is done, you're prolly gonna be in good shape. You're adept enough at turning wrenches that you won't have any problem with the T-belt/WP, and at only 200K, that 2UZ is barely half the way there yet.....

A couple of known "areas:"
  • GXs are known for having radiators go bad. Be sure to check it over while doing the timing belt service
  • The 4wd actuator on the transfer case has a seal that can start leaking. FSM says to remove/open up/replace the t-case to repair this seal, but there is a well-known fix for the seal that doesn't require the t-case removal. Most only weep, so it may even be a moot issue, but you might want to check.
  • You prolly already know this, but if your dash is cracked (if it hasn't been replaced, it's almost surely cracked somewhere), Lexus is replacing ALL GX dashes FREE until sometime in 2017. Take it to the dealer and get on the waiting list. From that point on, you're good until the part comes in.
  • I'm sure you know how easy/cheap it is to solve the almost-certain rear air bag suspension issues.
  • Get a taller lift that mine if you're gonna do river crossings

Bet it'll turn out good..............

Thanks David. I believe the radiator has been replaced but need to review the service history and the few receipts I got to see if my recollection is correct. Dash is not cracked but I don't know if it's the original or not. T-case is a bit greasy unlike the rest of the undercarriage so thanks for the tip on that one. Not sure what ill do on the lift question. Prolly nothing for a while.

The plugs were in amazing shape with unknown miles. Nothing in the service history about a change but surely they are not original. All were clean and chalky brown color with only number 8 showing ANY sign of oil consumption. Oil/filter was changer 2k ago and is still full to the mark and looks incredibly clean.

Gotta shift gears and try to work in half ass tomorrow but, if I find the time, those running boards gotta go!

Thanks David. I believe the radiator has been replaced but need to review the service history and the few receipts I got to see if my recollection is correct. Dash is not cracked but I don't know if it's the original or not. Check around the edges where it runs down the center on each side of the air vents. Also, where it runs from the dash to the driver's door. If it hasn't been replaced already (unlikely, since the dashes JUST started becoming available from the supplier), it WILL crack, so you're gonna want a new one. I'll bet you'll find hairline cracks if you look hard, and once those start, they'll become really noticeable in a few months. T-case is a bit greasy unlike the rest of the undercarriage so thanks for the tip on that one. Not sure what ill do on the lift question. Prolly nothing for a while.

The 2UZ surely wouldn't be classified as a beast, but it's one, smooth-running dude with a crazy long life....My now 311k LC doesn't use a drop between oil changes!

Gotta shift gears and try to work in half ass tomorrow but, if I find the time, those running boards gotta go! Glad you're doing it soon enough that I didn't have to make that suggestion! I AM the CLC running board monitor, after all.....:D

@dnp thanks for that. Momma is looking at getting into a GX and I literally was just about to ask about know issues that should be on the list to keep an eye out for, so thank you for posting that.
