Hey everybody. I just don't have the time to do all the work needed on my LX at 120,000 miles. I got a quote for the standard service (filters, oil, plugs, AHC service, brake fluid flush, prop-shaft lube, coolant (?), inspection, etc.) and additionally to have the Front and Rear diff fluid replaced, transfer case fluid replaced and the transmission fluid replaced. All in with tax, loaner vehicle, etc. it comes to $1,900 and change. I know that's not a small amount of money, but it does seem reasonable for a days work and knowing how expensive the Toyota/Lexus fluids are. It would take me a month full of weekends to do it all myself and then of course I wouldn't be able to do other fun weekend things.

Thoughts? I also have a request out to the local Toyota dealer for the same work. We'll see where their quote comes in.
Thanks,
AA

Get it done. Try to get a 10% off coupon if u can. In my mind it’s totally worth it and don’t have to run around for weeks to buy parts, replace etc.

Get it done. I’d get that 8yr old coolant changed for sure in spite of claims that you may not need to do that.

I might shop and independent shop that specializes in Toyo/Lexus. All of that can be accomplished effectively without the dealership price.

I know the stuff is expensive (80/L for the transfer case) but that is a very steep bill for fluids.

I’d see if a local trusted mechanic can beat that.. hell I think they’d make a lot of profit at $900 off that price.

Go for it, except the cabin filter. No amount of upfront information/signs/notes/pleading will prevent damage to the HVAC at dealers. Have them hand it you and put it in yourself with the system in recirc.

What am I missing? I thought it used a good 75w-90.

Specs have varied over the years but many 200s call for straight 75w and the OEM virgin oil has some atypical properties. Realistically any good 75w-90 will probably work fine but since we don’t know why those odd properties were called for, some of us want to stick to the factory fluid. It’s about $50/liter at the discount sites.

Lots of discussion here $80/liter transfer case oil

Interesting. Well, Toyota specs 75-85 and also 75-90 for the rear differential, for the 2009 LX 570. $80/liter transfer case oil

Got it... I vaguely remember my ‘07 4Runner needed a less typical, hard to find weight too. I was able to get it from Amsoil then by the time 60k rolled around I just didn’t bother. I will probably do the same here.

I like to put in a bit of moly addictive so that’d throw the viscosity off a touch anyways. Diffs and t-cases seem to work better if they’re tripping a bit.

@bloc, thank you for the response.

Here is the 75W-85 variety.

$1900 seems like a rip off to me. Better to do it yourself and learn your way around the vehicle. I think you can find an instructional YouTube video for all those services mentioned.
I’m certain I could do all of it myself. I just don’t have the time unfortunately.
