Sorry to pull this old thread up, but I got a set of HB 12 ton stands for christmas and I don't want to hash the whole HF debate, just wondering if anyone has any input on these. For the $$ at HF no less, and based on the shear mass of these things, I can't believe that these wouldn't be good units.

I found a good bit of info on 6 & 3 ton, but not much on the 12T's.

I will likely pick up a second set of 12Ts of some flavor to have a set of 4 with some christmas $$.

Thanks,

Tucker

X2 - I have nothing but good to say about them.

safety is good
12 ton stands for a cruiser is clearly overkill. Not that many (many!) of the things we do on this forum aren't overkill, many are, but... 6 tons per stand is still a pretty solid 5x safety margin.

Just to stir the pot a little: if you are really trying to be super-safe, it would probably make much more sense to use 2 jackstands ( you could get away with 2ton) on each corner vs. 1 big one.

Finally: I see a lot of safety ignorance down here. It is as if local mechanics lead a charmed life. One of the things that I point out all the time to them is that chocking AND blocking the wheels you aren't working on is pretty darn important. Even if you have a 12ton jack stand, it isn't going to hold if the truck rolls 1 foot back or forward.

i was about to get under my 40 (two jack stands supporting the weight of the rear end only) i have the collapsed jack stand sitting my my computer as a reminder of how lucky i am. they are the GM performance parts 2ton jack stands. when one failed (collapsed in on itsself the vehicle rocked falling off the other one... lucky for me it failed at almost the second i let the jack down so i hadnt had time to get under there yet. it was the first time id used the jacks. the box was still next to me

I've been using those exact stands for years without any hesitation. I'm actually thinking of getting a second set.

Thanks guys that is really what I figured, just needed to hear it from some fellow mudders.

Thanks again,

Tucker
