Yeah, I’ve been making reservations for camping and hotels and hoping I don’t have to cancel later, but stuff is booking up. Going to be another busy summer outdoors. I’m afraid there won’t be a ton of options when we finally hear if HIH has the green light.

Last year 90% of us went anyways. Just go anyways even if its cancelled.

90% might be a high estimate for last year, from the pictures/videos that I've seen from previous years I'd suspect that it was a bit lower, but it wasn't uncommon for our LX to "find a new friend" everywhere that we parked last summer...

Fair but my point stands. A large % of us still went last year. We were rolling 12-15 trucks deep at some points and guiding runs. Not sure why cancelling the event makes a lick of difference, but hopefully its on. You'll se us there no matter what, @ga12r1 @aaronrules @DirtDawg @Sargy @mattafact

Yeah maybe more like 10% in Silverton during HIH dates last year that I noticed but it was a good group. No matter what I’m going to be out there last week of July.

Same here. One of the few times when I can take a week away from work. It will be nice to take in some new country.

I’m just leaving Cruise Moab and it was a hell of an event. Even with some restrictions in place everyone had a blast. It’s really got me itching for Colorado this summer.

Lee - WHOA!!! At that spot I have seen a number of Jeeps keep crawling up to left and roll over, must be one of those Jeep things.
Thanks for showing your belly, impressive 200, I would of taken your word on the build. 😁
Glad CM went well!

We're here..... the honest answer is that we simply don't know yet. Restrictions in Colorado are still too restrictive for us to hold the traditional event and every day that we miss right now makes it harder to pull everything together. I've been in contact with town and we currently have the building and land secured. Still no insurance which is a massive hurdle when trying to host a mass gathering event.

Cruise Moab was a shadow of the real event and that's not at all what we want for HIH, especially not for HIHX. Massively scaling down HIH makes it not HIH. No pot luck? No Saturday night meal? No coffee in the lodge? Sounds awful.

We don't want to do another virtual even either. It never came together like we had hoped. HIH is simply the gathering of all of us together and without that, it really isn't anything.

We're trying. We wish this was over but it's not. Covid cases are up in many areas around the state. As summer gets closer, more and more vacationers travel to Colorado from other states, that increases the likelihood that cases rise back up and we end up getting canceled. Spending the money and panning for an event when there's a likelihood of having to cancel last minute is a big gamble for us. We don't keep enough money in the HIH account to cover those kinds of losses and Chris and I would be out of pocket like the old days. That was easier when it was 30 people, not 300+.

Best update we have for now.

Thanks for the update.

Do the vendors put on an Expo where they show their products to attendees in a normal event? We have some big 600+ person events with 100 rig trail rides in my area. Lots of good exposure to future customers for the vendors who participate. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any products for the 100 series owner at those local events.

Yes and no, and not really but kinda. ;)

So the way we've always done it was to have the vendors join the event. We want them to be attendees of the event, not event sponsors that occupy a booth and talk to prospective customers across a table. They're on the trails with us, sometimes leading a trail, sometimes just as participants. They camp and set up a small space near their camp, but we do not do an official "vendor night" like many other large events. We have always planned to do a pseudo vendor night for HIHX just to celebrate the longtime vendors that have done so much for HIH attendees over the years. Since so many of these vendors are close friends with Chris and I, we wanted to hang with them at our event.

We didn't want them standing behind a booth all weekend while everyone else had fun. We felt like this was the best of both worlds for the vendors and the participants. You can see their products in use on the trail and you can chat with them about their products over a trailside lunch or over beers around the campfire. They bring their entire families and it becomes the one event each year that they can attend as participants instead of it being work for them. We don't have sponsor tiers or charge ridiculous amounts to sponsor the event. They pay the standard registration fee and they're free to "work" as much or as little as they'd like.

The products that they donate to the raffle are completely up to them. We do not charge for raffle tickets and there is a "gentleman's agreement" (or lady's agreement) that any product won at HIH will either be used by the winner or traded for another product that was won. It's been that way since year one. We've switched it up the last two years to have specific buckets for specific items that folks need and it's worked great. We gave away five bumpers at HIH9 and only had maybe 30 tickets in the bumper bucket. The winners are always super hyped, which makes it exciting for everyone, and no one wins a bumper that they already have. The problem there would be that if someone were to sell that bumper that they won, for half the cost of a new one, it devalues the product from the vendor that was generous enough to give it away at our event.

HIH folks are super cool and we've never had an issue with anyone trying to take advantage of this unwritten rule in 10 years.

Checked in here to find out if I missed any signup. Thanks for the update Stan.

I'm hoping we can have a raffle, dinner and the usual group activities. Agreed the event isn't really HIH if you strip that away. Standing by for future updates!

Cruise Moab was something I REALLY looked forward to in 2020. Obviously that was cancelled along with HIH. With a newborn in our family and no vendor night at Cruise Moab 2021, I couldn't justify the trip and had to bow out this year. I hope to join in 2022 for Cruise Moab.
